Volkswagen ID.One Teased as Marque’s New Entry-Level EV

Volkswagen has an entirely new entry-level EV for Europe, and it will likely be named the ID.One.
Volkswagen has published the first official teaser image for its upcoming entry-level EV. Likely to be named the ID.One, this small EV hatch is set to hit the European market sometime later in 2027, where it will be priced below the EUR 20,000 (RM90,000 approximately) mark.

VW CEO Thomas Schafer described this new EV model as an “affordable, high-quality, profitable electric Volkswagen from Europe for Europe,” emphasising on the region’s reputation as the “Champions League of automobile manufacturing. With that being said, the automaker has yet to unveil the official name for its new entry-level EV, although the teaser image suggests that it might be known as the ID.One.
And as its supposed name suggests, this small EV hatch will be positioned below the production version of the ID.2all concept, which is bound to debut a year earlier in 2026 at a tentative price tag of below EUR 25,000 (RM115,000 approximately).

From the two teaser images, we can deduce that the ID.One gets a pretty similar design with one of VW’s prior EV concepts known as the ID.Life. Up front, the ID.One gets a pretty unique front face featuring full LED headlights with 3D LED graphics integrated into the front grille, along with an illuminated VW emblem.
Other key design highlights include the slim, vertically-mounted LED DRLs on the lower front bumper, a sleek lower air intake, and flared-out wheel arches, suggesting that this entry-level EV might roll on a wide set of wheels.

Similar to the ID.2all, the upcoming ID.One is also built on the shorter version of VW’s proprietary MEB platform. Given its compact footprint, we can expect this entry-level EV to get a smaller, more affordable battery pack while coming strictly with a single-motor setup for better space and energy efficiency.

Beyond this new entry-level EV, VW has confirmed that the ID.One will be followed by several next-gen EV models. Schafer also reiterates that despite the production of the Golf being moved to Mexico, VW’s Wolfsburg home plant in Germany will remain the “heart of the Volkswagen brand in the electric age,” where it will be the home of the next-gen Golf and T-Roc EVs.
