The Malaysian government will expand QR code immigration clearance at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) in Johor, targeting car drivers this year.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said this follows the successful use of QR codes for bus passengers and motorcyclists, easing congestion at the Johor-Singapore Causeway.

"By integrating technology and improving infrastructure, immigration clearance now takes only three seconds per user," he said after chairing the Special Committee Meeting to Address Congestion on the Johor Causeway.
With Malaysia set to chair ASEAN in 2025 and boost tourism and investment, the government is taking urgent steps to address traffic congestion.
The committee agreed to extend these measures nationwide, ensuring smoother entry at all major international checkpoints.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed QR codes have increased motorcycle clearance from 90 to 150 per lane every 15 minutes at BSI and KSAB.
"Next, we move our focus on car users, as they now face the worst congestion," he said, adding that solutions are also being explored for entry points like Rantau Panjang, Sadao, Bukit Kayu Hitam, Padang Besar, and major airports.

He also updated on the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, set to be completed by Dec 31, 2026, carrying 10,000 to 20,000 passengers per hour.
"Early preparations are crucial to manage traffic at Bukit Chagar and the RTS location in Singapore," he added.
These efforts aim to streamline immigration, improve travel efficiency, and enhance Johor-Singapore connectivity.
