MAA: March 2025 TIV Up 13%; But YTD Sales Down 7%

The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) released its vehicle sales and production data for March 2025 this week, reporting a total of 72,704 vehicles sold, marking a 13% (8,798 units) increase over the 63,906 vehicles recorded in the month prior (Feb 2025).
According to MAA, this uptick in sales was primarily driven by pre-Aidilfitri festive purchases as well as a push from automakers offering attractive bargains to drive sales numbers up before the close of the financial year on March 31, 2025.

As for Year-on-Year (YoY) sales numbers, March 2025’s total sales reflect a modest 2% increase compared to the 71,199 units sold in March 2024. Year-To-Date (YTD) figures, on the other hand, show a total of 188,122 vehicles sold in 2025. This is a 7% decrease from the 203,137 units sold during the same period in 2024.

As for MAA’s production data, March 2025 shows a total of 58,063 vehicles produced, down 13% from 67,011 units recorded in March 2024. This includes 55,301 passenger vehicles (PV) and 2,762 commercial vehicles (CV). Cumulatively, YTD production this year reached 177,603 units, which is 16% less compared to 210,527 units in the same period last year.

According to MAA, this decline mirrors the slowdown in commercial vehicle demand and ongoing adjustments in production planning among manufacturers. As for April 2025, MAA anticipates a dip in vehicle sales taking into account to the long Aidilfitri holiday period (March 31 – April 6).
