Northport Launches Car Carrier Training Program for EV Handling
Northport, in collaboration with its esteemed partners CLLB and KPX, has initiated a comprehensive car carrier truck driver training program focused on Electric Vehicle (EV) Handling. This strategic endeavor represents a substantial advancement in the development of the national EV ecosystem.
During the program's launch ceremony at Terminal Kapal Persiaran Pelabuhan Klang, Port Klang, the Transport Minister, Anthony Loke, stated that the port serves as a vital national gateway and is instrumental in accommodating the rising volume of vehicles, including EVs, entering the domestic market.
“The establishment of the EV Handling Car Carrier Driver Training Programme is very timely with the government's efforts to boost EV adoption in Malaysia
“We must ensure that our industry and workforce are prepared to meet logistical difficulties, particularly the safe and efficient distribution and handling of EV vehicles from ports to showrooms and customers across the country,” he says.
According to Loke, car-carrier drivers are essential to the logistics chain, as they are the first to handle electric vehicles after they arrive from the ship. Therefore, it is crucial to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge regarding EV handling, transportation, and emergency procedures.
“Through the Northport International Centre of Excellence (NICE) training centre, Northport has proven that strategic partnerships and industry collaboration with the Government are key in driving the country's EV agenda,” Loke added.
