Android Auto users will be able to stream videos and enjoy web browsing on their vehicles soon, thanks to this upcoming new update from Google. These features were previously available in Google Built-In-powered cars, which has now trickled down to its smartphone-mirroring counterpart.

Announced at the Google I/O 2025 conference, the tech giant said that both the video and web browsing services for Android Auto will be available “soon,” starting with phones running on the latest Android 16 on selected compatible cars. Also important to note that for safety reasons, these services will only work when the car is parked, which is the same protocol implemented on Google Built-In software.

Google further added that on top of video and browsing services, Android Auto users will also be able to play games in their cars, as the gaming service is now available in beta for the platform.

As of now, Google has yet to detail which exact video and browsing apps will be made available for Android Auto, but we’ve already seen Google Built-In cars featuring streaming services like Amazon Prime and YouTube, while the browsing half is being taken by its own in-house browser, Google Chrome.

Not to forget, the tech giant also plans to introduce an audio-only mode to video apps on Android Auto, thus allowing drivers to listen to audio playbacks from video apps while driving.

Besides both video and web browsing services, Google has also announced a massive update for the Spotify app on Android Auto. One feature that is now available from this update is Spotify Jam, where it lets users share control of an audio source from their individual devices.

This means that anyone with a Spotify app on their phone can jump in and add songs to be played on the Android Auto-connected vehicle by tapping the new “Jam” icon on the car’s touchscreen and then scanning a QR code to start adding songs to the play queue.

Also mentioned during the Google I/O presentation is the extended support for weather apps on Android Auto, which allows drivers to see live weather information relevant to their current location or route. Meanwhile, Google Built-In cars will get new Quick Share support, which lets users do things like add stops to in-progress Google Maps routes.
