JPJ KL Seized Vehicles Auction Collects Over RM245,500
The Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department (JPJ) made RM237,000 from its first public vehicle auction of the year, which featured 124 seized vehicles.
According to JPJ Director, Hamidi Adam, 108 of the vehicles were in working condition, 16 were for scrap and six were cloned vehicles. All of them were successfully auctioned off. The highest bid was RM27,000 for a Mitsubishi Canter tipper truck, while the lowest was just RM200 for a scrap Modenas motorcycle.
“These vehicles were seized during JPJ enforcement operations for offences like driving without road tax or insurance,” Hamidi said. “If owners don’t reclaim their vehicles within three months, we take the case to court and if approved, the vehicles go up for auction.” Hamidi added that these auctions are held twice a year.
Despite only 85 people joining this round - fewer than the 100 expected - he said the turnout was still good. In addition to the vehicle sales, RM8,500 was earned from the sale of RM100 bidder booklets, bringing the total revenue to RM245,500.
Due to limited space, JPJ is considering limiting the number of bidders in future auctions. However, they are also working on finding a larger venue to make the event more comfortable of attendees.
Hamidi also mentioned that while auctions are currently done manually, an online bidding system is being planned under JPJ’s headquarters.
