smart #5 Makes RHD Debut in Hong Kong – Malaysia Next?
The all-new smart #5 has just made its RHD market debut in Hong Kong. Is Malaysia next on the list?
Fresh from making its public Malaysian debut at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 (MAS 2025), the smart #5 has finally made its first right-hand drive (RHD) market entry in Hong Kong. In said island-nation market, this EV SUV comes in four variants, including the newly unveiled Brabus top-spec model.
Specs-wise, the two entry-level variants—Pro and Premium—come with a single RWD motor setup that delivers 330 HP and 353 HP, respectively, while their torque figures are capped at 373 Nm. Meanwhile, both the Summit Edition and Brabus variants get a peppier dual-motor AWD setup, delivering 571 HP and 643 NM in the former, while the latter makes 628 HP and 710 NM.
The smart #5 Brabus (left) and #5 Pro (right) are both shown in their RHD versions.
Regardless of variants, all HK-spec #5 draw their juice from a sizable 100-kWh battery pack, with the exception of the entry-level Pro model, which opts for a smaller 76-kWh unit instead. The WLTP range varies accordingly at 465 km for the Pro, 590 km for the Premium, and 540 km for both the Summit Edition and Brabus variants.
Charging-wise, the entry-level #5 Pro supports AC charging at only an 11 kW rate, while the rest come with a more powerful 22 kW AC charger, thus allowing the large battery to be charged from 10-80% in approximately 3.5 hours. Although no exact DCFC figures were given, smart Hong Kong claims the Pro takes around 30 minutes to reach 80% SoC from 10%, while the others manage it in about 20 minutes.
In terms of equipment, the HK-spec smart #5 gets the same amenities as both their European and Chinese counterparts, with the only notable difference being the RHD configuration of these cars. Notably, both the Summit Edition and Brabus models get the most bells and whistles, including the 2,000-watt-rated Sennheiser Signature Sound System, massive dual 13-inch AMOLED passenger display screens, and many more.
But what truly caught our attention on the HK-bound smart #5 are the prices, with the entry-level Pro model only starting from HKD 289,000 (RM158,716), which makes it cheaper than the #3 Premium in Hong Kong. The #5 Premium, on the other hand, is tagged at HKD 369,000 (RM202,651), while the two top-spec #5 Summit Edition and #5 Brabus complete the lineup at HKD 399,000 (RM219,127) and HKD 439,000 (RM241,095), respectively.
Before you immediately storm out to your nearest smart Malaysia dealership, let us be clear that the Malaysian-bound smart #5 might not follow the same pricing convention as its Hong Kong cousins. But given how the #1 and #3 duos are positioned against their European peers, perhaps we can expect the #5 to do the same.
