Car Wash Worker Severely Injured After Vehicle Plunges From 3rd Floor
A 23-year-old car wash worker was severely injured after a customer’s Toyota Camry he was driving plunged from the third floor of a serviced apartment, OUG Parklane, in Old Klang Road on Sunday (15 June).
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, stated that preliminary investigations indicate the Afghan man, who sustained serious injuries, likely lost control of the customer’s vehicle he was attempting to park after washing it.
“He is believed to have mistakenly pressed the gas pedal, causing the vehicle to hit a wall and fall from the 3rd floor before hitting 2 other vehicles, a Proton Iriz and a Perodua Myvi, parked below the building,” he says, adding that this case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Fortunately, according to Zamzuri, the owners of the two cars parked beneath the building were not inside when the incident occurred. The car wash employee, who sustained severe injuries, was rushed to the University Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) red zone for further treatment.
Incidents like this aren’t uncommon in Malaysia.
A similar case happened back in February, although that incident was due to the driver's own negligence.
An elderly man in Kuala Lumpur accidentally stepped on the accelerator while trying to park, sending his car crashing through the wall of a third-floor parking lot. His Proton Saga fell all the way to the ground, but incredibly, the 78-year-old driver walked away with just minor injuries.
