Geely Unveils New EM AI Super Hybrid 2.0 System
Geely has taken the centre stage at the Auto Chongqing 2025 show to unveil its new EM AI Super Hybrid 2.0 system.
Geely has a new hybrid powertrain system in its hands, and it is called the Geely EM AI Super Hybrid 2.0. Unveiled at the Auto Chongqing 2025 motor show, the Chinese automotive giant claims the EM AI Super Hybrid 2.0 is the industry’s first AI-scenario-based powertrain setup, encompassing three variants—EM-i, EM-P, and even a hydrogen-powered variant.
At its core, this hybrid system features a new 1.5-litre engine that promises to deliver a class-leading thermal efficiency of 47.26%, while capable of reaching a low fuel consumption rate of only 2.49 litres per 100 km across all road conditions.
What separates the new EM AI Super Hybrid 2.0 from Geely’s previous hybrid system is the integration of its Xingrui Intelligent Computing Center 2.0. With its industry-leading computing power of 23.5 E FLOPS, the Xingrui AI Cloud Power 2.0 helps to boost the power consumption of the EM AI Super Hybrid 2.0 system while at the same time optimising its energy consumption.
Geely also claims this new system has been optimised to reduce the maintenance cost by extending the engine maintenance mileage by over 50% and increasing the lifespan of the power battery by 15%, saving users time and money.
The Geely Galaxy A7 PHEV will be the first model to debut the new EM-i system.
As for the detailed specs, the EM-i system features a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) configuration, where the 1.5-litre mill has been integrated with seven friction-reduction technologies, a variable-displacement oil pump, and intelligent thermal management. As a result, Geely claims the EM-i can deliver a decent fuel consumption of only 2.67 litres per 100 km, which allows for up to 2,100 km of combined CLTC driving range.
This new system will make its debut in the new Geely Galaxy A7 saloon, which was previously touted as a viable successor to the Proton Perdana, should P1 decide to adopt it.
Meanwhile, the EM-P PHEV system is designed with an extra focus on driving dynamics and all-wheel drive performance, as it features a turbocharged version of the same 1.5-litre engine used on the EM-i. This turbocharged mill is then mated to an all-wheel drive system that has been enhanced by the Xingrui AI Cloud Power 2.0 for better torque distribution.
Geely Galaxy M9 PHEV SUV
This setup will make its debut on the Geely Galaxy M9 SUV, where it promises to deliver a combined CLTC driving range of up to 1,500 km, a fuel consumption of 4.8 litres per 100 km, and a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 4.5 seconds.
The third and final variant of the EM AI Super Hybrid 2.0 will adopt a hydrogen powertrain setup, where its ICE component is said to deliver an even more impressive thermal efficiency rate of 48.15%. Still, not much is known about this new hydrogen-hybrid system, but Geely said that it will power a new sedan and SUV model, set to debut later in Q4 this year.
