LRT Fatality: Train Runs Over Taiwanese Man
A Taiwanese man was killed after falling onto the tracks and being run over by a train at the Pusat Bandar Puchong LRT station on Tuesday evening.
According to Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Operations Division Assistant Director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, an emergency call was received at 6:05PM. A team from the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched and found the victim unconscious under the train.
Further checks confirmed that he had died at the scene. The victim was identified as Chang Pao-Shih, 63. His body was retrieved at 8:05PM and sent to Serdang Hospital for a post-mortem.
Meanwhile, Serdang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Farid Ahmad, said the case has been classified as sudden death. He also urged the public not to share photos of the victim out of respect for the family.
Rapid KL confirmed the incident occurred at 5:54PM and temporarily disrupted train services. To minimize inconvenience, alternative train routes and a free shuttle bus service were provided between Puchong Perdana and Kinrara BK5 stations.
Train services at Bandar Puteri, Taman Perindustrian Puchong, Pusat Bandar Puchong, and IOI Puchong Jaya resumed normal operations by 8:52PM. Rapid Rail expressed its condolences and apologized for the inconvenience caused.
The company pledged full cooperation with authorities and will liaise with the embassy to ensure appropriate assistance is provided to the victim’s next of kin.
This incident highlights growing concern over passenger safety on train platforms. Maybe its hightime Rapid KL fast-tracked its planned safety upgrades as announced before by Group CEO Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah - platform sensors to detect unsafe movements and the installation of screen doors.
