Loke: Smart CCTVs, Platform Doors Planned for Safer LRT Stations
![]()
The Ministry of Transport recently announced plans to enhance safety measures at train stations following a tragic incident at Titiwangsa LRT station, where a disabled passenger lost their life after falling onto the train tracks.
He assured that the ministry is working closely with relevant parties, particularly Prasarana, to conduct a thorough investigation.
Loke has also instructed the public transport operator to review and improve safety measures at all train stations, with a particular focus on facilities for persons with disabilities (PwD).

As part of preventive efforts, Prasarana will install smart CCTV systems capable of detecting risky behavior at stations. The company is also planning to install platform screen doors across all LRT lines in the long term to enhance passenger safety.
Loke urged passengers who require additional assistance, including PwDs, to seek help from Prasarana staff or Auxiliary Police stationed at train stations to ensure their needs are met.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring a safer, more inclusive, and user-friendly public transport system for all Malaysians.

Rapid Rail is also extending its full cooperation with authorities in the investigation and will step up monitoring efforts at stations.
Earlier today, Loke clarified that the service provider was not at fault.
He explained that all LRT stations have a Platform Intrusion Emergency Stop (PIES) system which automatically halt trains when an object falls onto the tracks, often causing service delays.
Loke further explained, "The incident at Titiwangsa LRT station happened as the victim fell onto the track at the exact moment the train arrived, and the PIES system did not have time to shut down."
Investigation on the incident is ongoing.
