New Concept AMG GT XX Previews Upcoming 1,340 HP EV Hypercar
Mercedes-AMG unraveled its new Concept AMG GT XX EV hypercar saloon earlier today.

The renowned three-point star marque saw its Mercedes-AMG performance arm take the internet by storm today after revealing its latest concept. Christened as the Concept AMG GT XX, it previews an upcoming EV hypercar that the performance division intends to produce.
Clearly, Mercedes-AMG isn’t taking any half measures towards electrification. Promising up to 1,340 HP and a 360 KM/H V-Max, the road-going version of the Concept AMG GT XX debuts next year and will bring the fight directly to the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT.
Underneath, the Concept AMG GT XX underpins Mercedes-AMG’s bespoke EV platform that’s constructed using a mix of steel, aluminium and carbon composites. Moreover, a Ferrari Purosangue-styled lifted crossover SUV twin is being planned too.
The striking design has a key purpose - aero efficiency. On that note, Mercedes-AMG touts a low drag co-efficient figure of 0.198 for the Concept AMG GT XX.

Back to the Concept AMG GT XX saloon, its striking design has a purpose – aero efficiency. In fact, Mercedes-AMG touts a drag coefficient figure of 0.198. Said figure comes even though the concept rolls on wide tyres and has side-mirrors.
Striking here too is the familiar shade of orange this concept wears – it’s the same trademark tangerine shade worn by the legendary C111 supercar concept.

Adding to aero efficiency here are the special carbon fibre aero wheel covers that feature panels that can move outward or retract, and these are powered independently by the wheel's forward motion.

Whilst on aero still, Mercedes-AMG employed a special aero wheel covers featuring five carbon fibre panels that move outward and retract electrically as needed for either optimal airflow or brake cooling.
These also operate independently from the on-board battery using kinetic energy from the wheel’s forward motion. Mercedes-AMG also touts that these special wheels only add “one or two kilos” of weight versus a regular cast-alloy wheel.

Not just high in tech, the futuristic cabin design is also high on sustainability thanks to textile and interior trims made using discarded GT3 tyres.

Inside, the concept’s cabin is furnished with carbon fibre bucket seats laced with custom cushioning modelled after a customer’s body scan. The textiles on the seat and interior trims are made from discarded GT3 tyres.
Tasked with display duties is a large dual-tablet interface, whereas the driver gets greeted with a yoke-style steering wheel with twistable selectors and paddle-shifters.
Housed within the concept's bespoke 800-volt platform architecture are a pair of Electric Drive Units (EDU) with a total of three axial flux e-motors - one up front and two at the rear - that puts out a whopping 1,340 HP.

Underneath, the Concept AMG GT XX harnesses an 800-volt architecture that also houses a high-tech battery pack that accepts charging inputs as high as 850 kW. Through which, Mercedes-AMG claims it can add up to 400 KM of range with just 5 minutes of charging.
Tasked with propulsion are a pair of Electric Drive Units (EDU) containing three axial-flux e-motors – two in the rear and one up front. Altogether, these put out a whopping 1,340 HP as mentioned, and each EDU has its own planetary gearset and water-cooled inverter too.
Notably, the rear EDU does serves as the primary drive unit, whereas the front EDU can decouple itself whilst coasting and during steady cruises for optimal efficiency.
Notable here is the fact that the headlight housings feature integrated dual-loudspeakers that reportedly puts out an artificial V8-like engine sound for the Concept AMG GT XX.

Mercedes-AMG even claims that the concept’s direct-cooled cylindrical battery cells — a proprietary design sourced from a secret supplier — improves heat management and make it easier to sustain high-performance driving over a typical track session’s duration.
Notably, Mercedes-AMG have also added an element of theatre through an artificial V8-like engine sound projected via dual-loudspeakers integrated into the headlight housings, with the latter part also able to channel sound around the car.

Novelties like the fluid light-painted side skirts, as well as the rear LED light bar that doubles up as a message screen, likely won't make it into the final production version of this concept.

These aside, the concept even boast a slew of features that likely won’t make it into production. Key amongst which is the fluid light paint on the side skirts and the LED light bar at the rear, which doubles up as a message screen too.
Said novelties aside, what’s evidently clear from this concept is the indicative future performance promised by upcoming electric Mercedes-AMG production models.
