Special Caricarz Automall Sunday Car Market Poised To Help Tackle Car Debt Crisis
In response to Malaysia’s growing car debt crisis, Caricarz Automall is launching a new initiative to help vehicle owners avoid lowball trade-in offers and sell their cars at better prices.
The special Caricarz Automall Sunday Car Market event takes place July 6, 2025 at the automall’s 180,000-square-feet premise located at Level 3A Carpark, The Strand Mall, Kota Damansara. The event runs from 9AM to 6PM, and it is free for both buyers and sellers.
This initiative comes amid concerning statistics: nearly 39% of Malaysian car owners are burdened by their auto loans, with many owing more than their cars are worth. Studies show the average shortfall exceeds RM29,000. Additionally, since 2022, 44% of recent buyers have been locked into inflated car loans.
Caricarz CEO and Founder James Goh explains that traditional dealerships often take advantage of owners' financial pressure, offering trade-in prices significantly below their outstanding loan balances. Many owners accept these offers just to offload debt - often ending up in worse financial situations.
Caricarz Automall proposes a better alternative: a direct-sale consignment model that removes middlemen from the process. This model, already in use at Caricarz Automall, has enabled sellers to achieve better returns than traditional dealer offers.
In one recent example, a seller with an outstanding balance of RM150,000 on a BMW 630i GT received dealer offers of just RM130,000. Through Caricarz Automall, the vehicle sold for RM160,000 after fees, turning a RM20,000 deficit into a RM10,000 surplus.
Goh added that the biggest challenge isn’t pricing or commissions, it’s trust. Many owners are hesitant to leave their cars with third parties for extended periods, uncertain about security or outcomes. That’s the gap the Sunday Car Market aims to fill.
This one-day event allows sellers to stay in control, meet buyers directly, and receive real-time feedback - all in a safe, transparent environment. Sellers don’t need to surrender their vehicles to dealers and can close deals on the spot.
If a vehicle doesn’t sell during the event, the owner can opt into the Caricarz Automall consignment program, where an in-house team handles viewings, negotiations, paperwork, and even loan processing and ownership transfers.
If successful, Caricarz Automall plans to turn the Sunday Car Market into a regular series of events, with possible expansion beyond Kota Damansara.
This special event is expected to feature over 100 vehicles and attract more than 300 visitors. Additional services like vehicle inspections, detailing, and ownership transfer processing will be available on-site. Light refreshments will be served throughout the day.
