E-Hailing Group Renews Call For Minimum Fare Policy
The Sahabat E-Hailing Malaysia action group is once again urging the Ministry of Transport (MOT) to enforce a minimum fare policy for e-hailing rides, calling for immediate action from Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
Deputy chairman Zailani Zainuddin said the group had submitted a memorandum last December but has yet to receive any meaningful response, Utusan Malaysia has reported.
“We don’t want this to be like before, where after the memo is handed in, everything goes quiet. Drivers are frustrated. So this time, we’re committed to seeing it through,” he told the portal at MOT headquarters on Friday.
Zailani stressed that the group isn’t asking for fare hikes but rather a regulated price floor to protect both drivers and local e-hailing operators from cutthroat pricing practices.
“We’re not asking to raise fares. We just want a price floor, so there’s no room for unhealthy competition or manipulation. This gives local EHOs a fairer shot,” he explained.

A peaceful gathering of around 50 e-hailing drivers was held prior to the meeting with MOT representatives. The group is made up of nine committee members.
Back in December 2024, more than 1,200 drivers nationwide had urged the government to immediately implement fare controls, giving Anthony Loke a one-month deadline to respond.
The memorandum included seven key demands covering base fares and commission rates.
Zailani also highlighted that the movement speaks not just for drivers, but for riders as well.
“This isn’t only about drivers. It’s also about the passengers who rely on these services every day. Their safety, comfort and fair pricing matter too,” he said.
He expressed hope that the government will now take the matter seriously and act without further delay.
