Farasis Energy has reportedly entered the pilot production and delivery phase for its solid-state battery development programme.

Farasis Energy, a new energy company backed by Mercedes-Benz, has reportedly started the pilot production and delivery phase for its solid-state battery development programme. According to CarNewsChina, who quoted a Chinese news portal, IT-Home, the company expects the construction of its pilot production line to be completed by the end of 2025.

As part of its ambitious solid-state battery development programme, the company said the new pilot production line will boast a design capacity of 0.2 GWh for sulfide-based solid-state batteries, with an aim to deliver 60 Ah sulfide solid-state battery samples to strategic partner customers.

The company also said that it has received much interest from several established new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturers beyond its existing partners like Mercedes-Benz. Based on market feedback and internal planning, the company is expected to scale its all-solid-state battery production to gigawatt-hour (GWh) levels in 2026.

Farasis previously stated that its sulfide-based solid-state batteries utilise a development route that combines high-nickel ternary cathodes, soft-pack structures, and stacked cell architecture. Its current design features high-nickel cathodes that are paired with high-silicon or lithium metal anodes.

With an aim for an energy density of over 400 Wh/kg, Farasis said its solid-state cells have entered real-world testing and reportedly show stable cycling performance.

In terms of safety, Farasis claimed that its solid-state electrolytes have passed puncture, shear, and thermal chamber tests. The battery cells themselves are also designed with a self-shutdown feature to reduce risks during thermal runaway.

Besides this solid-state battery pilot production, Farasis is also developing a second battery platform based on oxide/polymer composite electrolytes. It utilises lithium metal anodes and high-nickel cathodes, aiming for an energy density of up to 500 Wh/kg.

Founded in 2009, Farasis Energy is a Chinese battery manufacturer that is known for its high-performance ternary soft-pack lithium-ion batteries, which are used in electric vehicles and energy storage applications. Backed by Mercedes-Benz, the company also holds strategic partnerships with Geely and Türkiye’s Togg, while also collaborating with FAW on commercial vehicle applications.

From its Mercedes-Benz partnership, the company has supplied batteries for some of Merc’s EV models, including the EQE and EQS saloons—one of which was previously involved in a fire accident at an underground parking garage in South Korea.
