Floods in 2024 caused over RM94 million in damage to public infrastructure across Malaysia, with roads taking the brunt of the impact, according to the Works Ministry (KKR).

Major repair works have since been completed in several of the worst-hit states, including Perak (RM33.4 million), Terengganu (RM22.13 million), and Kelantan (RM20.38 million).

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the government moved swiftly to restore critical infrastructure following last year’s monsoon floods, a reflection of its commitment to ensuring flood-affected areas receive timely support.

With the next Northeast Monsoon expected later this year, Nanta said the ministry is already making necessary preparations.

A Disaster Operations Room would remain active year-round and will scale up its efforts during the monsoon period to monitor impacts and coordinate flood response more effectively.

In Terengganu, nearly all flood-damaged roads have been repaired with federal assistance, said State Executive Councillor for Infrastructure, Datuk Hanafiah Mat.

“The only outstanding project is a slope road in Bukit Besi, Dungun. The tender process should begin in about two months,” he said.
