Over 39,000 Road Issues Flagged On MyJalan App Since Launch
The MyJalan app has recorded more than 39,000 complaints since its launch in August 2023 but the majority of them fall outside the federal government’s scope, Berita Harian has reported.
Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan told Parliament that just 30% of the reports involved federal roads under the Ministry of Works (KKR), while the remaining 70% were linked to roads managed by state or local councils.
“In Sarawak alone, we received 809 complaints. Only 68 were under KKR
“We’ve resolved 43, and the rest are being handled. But more than 90% involve roads under different authorities," he said.

He was responding to GPS-Batang Lupar MP Mohamad Shafizan Kepli, who asked how effective the app has been in addressing road issues in Sarawak.
Ahmad acknowledged that while the app has helped spotlight problems, real improvements depend on coordination between federal, state, and local agencies. And timing is key.
“For potholes reported to the ministry, we aim to patch them within 24 hours. That should be the benchmark for all agencies. For other road damage, the target is within 15 days," he added.

The minister also explained that road damage is often caused by a combination of factors, including frequent rain and extreme heat, overloading by heavy vehicles, ageing infrastructure, low-quality pavement, and poorly executed utility work.
To address long-term issues, he said the ministry will carry out a “swell investigation”, a study to assess soil and structural stability, especially for elevated roads.
In flood-prone areas, roads may be raised to prevent closures during the monsoon season.

“We have the tools. Now, it’s about making sure every agency plays its part to keep our roads safe and in good shape,” he told the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday.
