At last, Ferrari unwrapped its successor to the SF90 through its new 849 Testarossa and 849 Testarossa Spider.

At last, the storied Italian prancing horse marque rooted in Maranello has unwrapped its newest metal. Called the 849 Testarossa, the renowned Ferrari marque elected to reveal it in both coupe and open-top ‘Spider’ forms simultaneously too.

Not only set as the successor to the marque’s highly acclaimed SF90, which also came in both ‘Stradale’ coupe and ‘Spider’ open-top guises, House Maranello's latest super-PHEV (plug-in hybrid) mid-ship sportscar also revives an iconic name.

Simply put, the 849 Testarosssa now stands as the most powerful series-production Ferrari model to-date – a title once held by its SF90 predecessor. In fact, Ferrari elected to retain the SF90’s super-PHEV twin-turbo V8 heart in this follow-up.

Mounted in the middle is a 3,990 cc V8 twin-turbo petrol mill that’s augmented by two e-motors up front – one of each wheel – and a third e-motor mounted in between the aforementioned combustion mill and 8-speed F1 DCT automatic box.

New here are larger-diameter fixed-geometry turbochargers with low-friction bearings derived from the new F80 flagship, ‘innovative’ turbine heat shield casing derived from the 296 GT3 racecar, as well as revised cylinder heads, exhaust manifold, intake plenums and valvetrains fuel rail, a lighter crankshaft, and titanium screws throughout.

Mounted in the middle is a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo from the SF90, but it has been enhanced further. Combined, the 849 Testarossa boasts peak power output of 1,035 HP.

Altogether, combined peak power has risen to 1,035 hp, with the combustion half providing the lion share of which – up to 818 hp and 842 Nm. The electrified side of things supplies the additional 217 hp and up to 25 km of electric driving range from its 7.45 kWh battery pack.

In turn, the setup sees 0-100km/h sprints done in less than 2.3 secs, 0-200 km/h in under 6.35 secs, and a V-max well above 330 km/h. Ferrari also adds the 849 Testarossa has logged in a laptime of 1:17.500 around its renowned Fiorano test track – 1.2 secs quicker than the SF90 it succeeds.

Much of this stems from the 849 Testarossa being a lighter car too – by up to 30 kg less in coupe form at 1,570 kg dry. The Spider naturally weighs more – by 90 kg – but does tip the scale far lesser than the SF90 Spider that it succeeds. Surely, that’s a small price to pay for wind-in-hair thrills.

The design of the 849 Testarossa marks a huge departure from its SF90 predecessor, featuring hints from the new Ferrari F80 halo flagship too.

Other key bits primed on board too include an updated Side Slip Control version 9.0, advanced traction control to match with the eDiff, SCM, FDE 20 EPS, ABS Evo and something called ‘FIVE’ – highlight of Ferrari’s vast arsenal of performance driving assists.

Moving to styling and, clearly, the 849 Testarossa marks a radical departure from its predecessor. There are hints of the new F80 flagship halo car mentioned, evident with the front ‘mask’ and twin-tail rear winglets.

Prominent too are the deep channels carved on each side in the side profiles, as well as the black horizontal mask. Whilst arguably not as ‘elegant’ as the utterly gorgeous Roma or its successor the Amalfi, there’s no mistaking this Ferrari midship sports coupe for anything else at least.

The cabin has also been redesigned fully. Certainly, the presence of a 'proper' start button will be lauded by many - the SF90's haptics controls were largely criticised.

Enter the cabin and Ferrari has also refreshed things here fully, though we reckon many will laud the addition of a ‘proper’ start button and switches on the steering. Ferrari kept some haptics controls on the bottom side of the binnacle too.

‘Standard’ versions aside, Ferrari also showcased a hotter flavour of the 849 Testarossa primed with its Assetto Fiorano package. Costing an additional €52,500 (RM259,187), this brings a more aggressive aerokit with taller twin rear winglets, racier Multimatic suspension, even more carbon fibre bits, as well as stickier Michelin Cup2 tyres.

Following its online debut today, the new Ferrari 849 Testarossa is set to enter production soon ahead of planned deliveries starting from Spring 2026. The open-topped ‘Spider’ twin will instead see deliveries begin in Autumn 2026.

As for price, confirmed starting figures for the European market read from €460,000 (approx. RM3,159,616) for the coupe, whilst the Spider starts higher at €500,000 (approx. RM2,468,450).
