The manic Hyundai Ioniq 5 N gets a special edition in collaboration with the “Drift King” himself for TAS 2025.

Hyundai is taking its electric performance pursuit to the next level by unveiling a more extreme version of its already manic hot-hatch, the Ioniq 5 N. Christened as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N DK Edition, this special EV hot-hatch is built in collaboration with Japanese drift legend Keiichi Tsuchiya, also known as “Drift King.”

Unveiled globally at the ongoing Tokyo Auto Salon 2025 (TAS 2025), the Ioniq 5 N DK Edition is being marketed as a “high-performance parts package” that promises to further elevate the performance of the Ioniq 5 N, with Tsuchiya himself giving insights and pointers in further ‘perfecting’ this manic EV hot-hatch.

Visually, the Ioniq 5 N DK Edition gets a slew of additional equipment and special design touches to separate it from the normal Ioniq 5 N. For starters, the DK edition gets a special carbon fibre bodykit comprising a racecar-style front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser extensions, and a gooseneck-style rear wing. Hyundai N claims these carbon parts are not just for show, as it adds up to 93 KG of downforce at 140 KM/H speeds.

On top of that, this special EV is also draped in an exclusive matte white paint, which is accented by several gloss black and green trims, plus several “DK Edition” decals around the car. Not to forget, the Ioniq 5 N DK Edition also rides on a set of 21-inch lightweight forged alloy wheels, with all four of them weighing more than 10 KG less than the standard unit primed on the normal Ioniq 5 N.

Beyond the visual upgrades, Tsuchiya’s inputs have been put to good use, as the Ioniq 5 N DK Edition gets a host of mechanical and chassis tweaks. While the Ioniq 5 N’s standard electronic dampers were already decent, according to Tsuchiya, the Drift King himself has decided to beef the damper system further by installing H&R springs, while the ride height has been lowered by 15 MM.

Not to forget, the DK Edition’s stopping power has also been improved, thanks to the new six-piston monoblock brake callipers. Using high-strength duralumin material with larger, heat-resistant brake pads, Hyundai N claims that these beefier brakes can withstand the rigors of track use better than the standard ones while also promising more consistent and reliable performance in the longer run.

What remains unchanged is the Ioniq 5 N’s dual-motor AWD powertrain setup, with the DK Edition retaining the same 641 HP-rated unit, plus all the performance tricks and gizmos, including N Torque Distribution, N Drift Optimiser, and many more.

By far the biggest news besides the bare existence of this special model is that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N DK Edition won’t be a special one-off model for the TAS 2025, as Hyundai plans to sell the car as early as the first half of 2025. Both South Korea and Japan are slated to be the first two markets to officially get them, followed by other overseas markets down the road.
