Jalan Reko Upgrade Aims To Curb Floods, Ease Traffic By 2028
The government is upgrading Jalan Reko in Kajang as a long-term measure to tackle recurring flash floods and stagnant water issues that have long troubled motorists and residents.
According to Harian Metro, Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan said the project, now in Phase Two, is expected to be completed by 2028 with a total allocation of RM68 million.
“Among the works being carried out are upgrading the road into a four-lane single carriageway stretching 3.54 kilometres, improving 11 intersections including dedicated U-turns, and upgrading the existing drainage system,” he said.
He added that the project also includes road surfacing, geotechnical works, utility relocation, structural upgrades, installation of street and traffic lights, road furniture, and land acquisition.

Syahredzan noted he is confident the upgrades will help ease traffic congestion along Jalan Reko while reducing flood risks that often lead to jams.
“Of course, there will be some inconvenience during the construction period, but this is for greater comfort in the future,” he told Harian Metro.
The daily earlier reported that residents are growing weary of flash floods along Jalan Reko, especially after rain lasting more than 30 minutes.
Locals have urged for immediate and lasting solutions to improve safety and convenience for road users.
Syahredzan noted that the situation has improved significantly in recent months, thanks to repair and maintenance work carried out by the Public Works Department (JKR) Hulu Langat.
“In the past, yes, even 30 minutes of rain could cause flash floods. That was the reality then. But now, the situation has improved a lot, and it doesn’t happen as often anymore

“The last incident was on September 10. Before that, it had been quite a while since the last one, thanks to ongoing maintenance and drainage work by JKR,” he noted.
He urged residents to remain patient throughout the upgrade period, assuring that everyone will benefit once the project is completed.
