JPJ Cracks Down on KDEB Waste Management Over Repeated Offences

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is set to call in the top management of KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) after uncovering a long trail of traffic and safety offences involving its garbage trucks across Selangor.
JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the move is meant to serve as a firm reminder that even a state-owned company is not above the law. He said the matter had also been discussed with Transport Minister Anthony Loke to ensure that every offending vehicle under KDEBWM’s fleet faces immediate enforcement action.

“I’ve instructed our senior enforcement director, Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan, to stop and impound any KDEBWM trucks found breaching regulations. Ownership or government links do not give anyone a free pass,” Aedy said during a night operation at the Banting Enforcement Station.

The operation, which ran from 8PM to midnight, saw 22 garbage trucks seized for 154 offences, including operating without insurance, expired road licences, and the use of unlicensed foreign drivers.

Aedy acknowledged KDEBWM’s earlier cooperation in clearing more than 22,000 overdue summonses worth RM3.1 million but warned that continued violations by its contractors showed the problem was far from resolved.
Earlier reports showed KDEBWM topping the national list for active summonses at 22,017 cases, far ahead of other operators such as Mainiza Mantap Sdn Bhd (5,108), Advancecon Machinery Sdn Bhd (3,620), VK Transport Sdn Bhd (3,016), and Ng Swee Aik Trading Sdn Bhd (2,352).
The ministry had previously highlighted widespread non-compliance among commercial vehicle operators, including technical faults, overloading, speeding, unlicensed driving, and operating without valid insurance or road tax.
