Kummute Launches Malaysia–Singapore Cross-Border Taxi App

caption-(1)-full_normal-(2).jpg Ride-hailing startup Kummute has introduced CB Taxi, an app that allows commuters to book licensed cross-border taxis directly from their phones.

Previously, passengers had to queue at designated counters or deal directly with drivers. With the new service, they can now book rides in advance or on demand, see fares upfront, and pay cashless.

The system, however, still follows current regulations. Malaysian taxis can pick up passengers anywhere in Malaysia but must end trips at Singapore’s Ban San Street Terminal.

Likewise, Singapore-registered taxis can pick up anywhere in Singapore but can only drop off at Larkin Sentral in Johor Bahru.

"Future phases will look at expanding door-to-door options, pending approvals," the firm said.

The app currently supports both Malaysian Ringgit and Singapore Dollar payments. Standard fares include a booking fee which is RM25 for Malaysian taxis and S$8 for Singapore taxis.

For example, a trip from Larkin to Ban San Street is around RM198, while Changi Airport to Larkin costs about S$128.

Both four-seater sedans and six-seater MPVs are available, with drivers licensed under cross-border permits issued by the two governments.

Kummute, which also runs the Kumpool bus service, said the new platform is aimed at easing Causeway commutes and making cross-border taxi services more accessible.
