Cui Dongshu, the secretary general of the China Passenger Car Association, reportedly shared recently that the nation’s market share in global auto sales have reached 38% as of Oct 2025.
Cui further cites that global auto sales had reached a total of 8.64 million units in Oct 2025, marking a year-on-year (YoY) increase of 4% plus a month-on-month (MoM) increase of 1%. China’s sales volume here stands roughly at 3.3 million units.
With global auto sales totalling at 79.25 million between Jan and Oct this year, China accounts for 34.9% of which with 27.65 million units shifted.
Concurrently, Cui also highlighted that global auto sales between Jan to Oct this year totaled at roughly 79.25 million, marking a YoY increase of 6%. Amongst which, China has taken over 34.9% of the market with 27.65 million units shifted.
From said total, up to 13.88 million units were shifted to the United States, whereas up to 4.56 million units were shifted in India, followed by Japan with 3.86 million units. In the same report, Cui further notes that the Chinese market appears to be not only the largest, it’s also the most dynamic and fastest growing.
Amongst the world's top ten automakers, BYD ranks sixth. It's also amongst just three Chinese automakers listed in said top ten ranking - it places sixth in which.

Apart from that, the association’s sec-gen named three Chinese automakers amongst the world’s top 10 carmakers that experienced significant increases in market share. The highest ranking amongst the trio is BYD in sixth, whilst Geely placed eighth. Chery, on the other hand ranked tenth.
Another thing Cui highlighted was how the development of electrification has led to a gradual decline in market share for some international automakers. As a result, international brands experienced a decline in their overall market share.
Previously, CAAM had also shared that Chinese new energy vehicles (BEV, PHEV & REEV) sales have surged by 20% YoY to a record 1.715 million units.

Prior to this, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) had also shared that China’s vehicle sales reached a total of 3.322 million units as of Oct 2025.
From which, CAAM further notes that sales of new energy vehicles (BEV,PHEV & EREV) surged 20% YoY to a record 1.715 million units. They accounted for 51.6% of total new car sales too.
