Tested: General Tire AltiMAX GS6 - Value Meets Continental DNA

General Tire, a brand under Continental, may have American roots, but the tyres sold in Malaysia are engineered for our region. They’re manufactured in Thailand and China and distributed locally by Continental Tyre Malaysia.
Buyers also enjoy a lifetime warranty across all Continental, General and Viking products, giving the brand strong long-term value. Earlier today, Carz.com.my had the opportunity to sample the latest from the sub-brand called the AltiMAX GS6.

On the surface, the AltiMAX GS6 is positioned as a comfort-touring tyre built for long mileage, low noise and strong performance in both wet and dry conditions. In the brand’s APAC lineup, it is presented as the more refined option for passenger cars, sitting above the GC5, while the Grabber HT6 and AT6 serve the SUV and 4x4 segments.
This positioning makes the AltiMAX GS6 the go-to choice for drivers who want a step up in comfort and grip without moving into Continental’s premium range.

On the road, the differences surfaced clearly. At low speeds, the AltiMAX GS6 felt similar to a Japanese competitor chosen for comparison. Even at speeds beyond 100 km/h, the AltiMAX GS6 held its composure while the competitor tyre noted produced more cabin noise.
The braking tests widened the gap. On both wet and dry surfaces, the AltiMAX GS6 delivered shorter, more stable stopping distances. The overall feel was closer to a mid-premium Continental product than a budget option, which reinforces its value.

For drivers used to Continental tyres, the AltiMAX GS6 feels like a more affordable expression of the same performance DNA.
Continental Tyre Malaysia has also transformed the buying experience. It remains the only tyre company in the country that fully integrates online and offline retail. Customers can buy Continental, General or Viking tyres on platforms like Shopee and get them fitted at a nearby outlet within minutes.

It removes guesswork and makes the process remarkably convenient and transparent.
The AltiMAX GS6 is now available in a wide range of sizes, covering 15 to 19 inch wheels, ensuring compatibility with most popular passenger cars and crossover SUVs in Malaysia. A quick check online indicates that pricing starts from around RM220 (including installation), making the AltiMAX GS6 a seriously attractive value-for-money option for everyday drivers.

In short, the AltiMAX GS6 proves that a value-focused tyre can still deliver refinement, quietness and safety. It outperforms expectations and offers a compelling alternative for drivers seeking Continental-like performance at a more accessible price point.
