VW ID.Unyx 08 Unveiled in China – EV SUV with Xpeng’s Platform, 730 km Range

China’s MIIT filing has revealed more details regarding the upcoming Volkswagen ID.Unyx 08 EV SUV.
Filings for China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) have yet again unveiled new details regarding an upcoming EV SUV in China, this time around the new Volkswagen ID.Unyx 08. Positioned as the brand’s mid-to-large all-electric SUV, the ID.Unyx 08 is said to feature up to 730 km of EV range, an 800-volt ultra-fast charging function, and more.

We’ll start with the exterior design, where the ID.Unyx 08 adopts a fresh design language for VW as a brand, as seen on its radical concept master, the ID.UNYX. Up front, the 08 sports an enclosed front grille with a trapezoidal lower air intake, while the narrow, upward-sloping LED DRLs are flanking the VW badge at the centre.

From the side, the ID.Unyx 08 showcases a unique dual waistline design with hidden door handles, rising beltlines with thick D-pillars, flushed door handles, and a choice of two wheel styles. The rear part looks a bit more understated than the rest of the car, featuring slim LED taillights separated by an illuminated VW logo at the centre, plus a simple rear bumper garnish finished in black.
When it comes to dimensions, the ID.Unyx 08 spans 5,000 mm long, 1,954 mm wide, and 1,672 mm tall with a wheelbase of 3,030 mm, which is enough for it to be in the flagship full-size EV SUV category.

While no details were given regarding its interior, we’ve at least been told more details regarding the ID. Unyx 08’s powertrain setup. For starters, this large EV SUV’s development is a collaboration between Volkswagen and the renowned Guangzhou-based NEV marque, Xpeng. As a result, the 08 incorporates several technologies from Xpeng’s EV architecture, including the high-voltage system elements, as well as the software components for both connectivity and driver assistance functions.
As for the powertrain, the 08 will come in both single- and dual-motor options, with the former producing 308 hp (230 kW) and the latter featuring an extra motor at the front to deliver a combined output of up to 496 hp (370 kW). Two LFP battery options will be available, 82.368 kWh and 95.04 kWh, with the latter capable of delivering up to 730 km of CLTC range and supporting ultra-fast charging abilities thanks to its 800-volt architecture.
Beyond its powertrain setup, the ID.Unyx 08 is also equipped with a Level 2++ advanced driver-assistance system, which includes a “parking-to-parking” function for enhanced convenience. The EV SUV will also integrate an AI intelligent assistant with full-vehicle over-the-air (OTA) software update ability.

As of now, Volkswagen has yet to confirm the exact launch date for the new ID.Unyx 08, but the EV SUV is said to be part of the automaker’s 20 electrified intelligent models that it has planned to launch by the end of 2027.
