New Volkswagen ID.UNYX Set For Beijing Auto Show Debut
-full_normal.jpg)
Documents recently filed with the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) have revealed the new and all-electric Volkswagen ID.UNYX.
Effectively, this is a reworked iteration of the Cupra Tavascan. For the uninitiated, Cupra was previously the high-performance division of VW-owned Spanish car brand SEAT. Cupra was then spun-off to become a standalone brand, just as Polestar was spun off from Volvo.

The Volkswagen ID.UNYX, which will debut at the upcoming Beijing Auto Show in April, will be produced by Volkswagen Anhui, a joint venture between Volkswagen (75%) and Chinese company JAC Motors (25%), with JAC Motors being 50% owned by Volkswagen.
The Volkswagen ID.UNYX is basically a reworked Cupra Tavascan. However, while the Cupra Tavascan is intended for export markets, the ID.UNYX is set to only serve the Chinese domestic market. Both models would be built at Volkswagen's Anhui plant in China.

This EV SUV will come in two variants: one with a dual motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup with a combined power of 250 kW (335 HP), and another with a single rear-wheel drive (RWD) motor producing 170 kW (228 HP).
The Volkswagen ID.UNYX underpins the MEB platform, with a four-door, five-seat layout and a wheelbase of 2,766 MM. It sits 4,663 MM long, 1,860 MM tall, and 1,610 MM wide. The AWD variant tips the scales at 2,266 KG, whereas the RWD variant weighs in at 2,166 KG.

Based on the information available so far, both variants will roll on 21-inch wheels and share an electronically governed v-max of 160 km/h.
We at CariCarz.com believe that the Volkswagen ID.UNYX, or even the Cupra Tavascan, which has a profound coupe SUV silhouette, are attractive options that resemble a budget Lotus Eletre minus some over-the-top design features. Personally we find the Cupra a tad bit sportier looking then the Volkswagen.
