Report: Auto Sector In China Posted US$660 Billion Profits In 2025
The auto sector in China saw its 2025 production reach a staggering total output of 34.78 million vehicles, generating profits of up to US$660 billion in the process.

According to a recent report published by Sina via CarNewsChina, the auto sector within the Great Wall thrived in 2025 by posting profits of up to US$660 billion.
This largely stemmed from increased production totalling at 34.78 million vehicles recorded throughout 2025. Said figure also marks a healthy 10% year-on-year (YoY) growth, commented Cui Dongshu, sec-gen of the China Passenger Car Association.
The report further details that the country’s auto sector saw its total revenue for the year reach RMB11,179.7 billion, or roughly US$1.6 trillion, marking a sizeable 7.1% YoY growth.
The sector's overall profit margin was estimated by experts to be at roughly 4.1%.

Costs of goods sold across the industry also totalled at RMB,9848.8 billion, or roughly US$1.41 trillion. In turn, this resulted in an aggregate industry profit of about RMB461 billion, which equates to roughly US$65.9 billion.
Based on the figures detailed, experts estimate that the sector’s overall profit margin stood at roughly 4.1%, but this stands lower than the 5.9% average across downstream industrial enterprises within said nation.

Key contributors included major automakers like BYD, Geely and GWM, as well as new entrants like Leapmotor.

A slew of major Chinese automakers contributed to the annual production total noted, such as BYD (over 4.6 million vehicles), Geely (over 3 million vehicles), Chery (over 2.6 million vehicles), and Great Wall Motor – GWM – (over 1.3 million vehicles).
Contributing to this further too were new entrants such as Leapmotor (595,555 units), XPeng Motors (429,445 units), Li Auto (406,343 units), Nio (326,028 units), as well as Xioami Auto (over 400,000 units).
Exports of Chinese-made vehicles is poised to exceed 6.8 million units for 2025, and automaker Chery is amongst the top in this front.

From which, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers also reportedly projected that exports of Chinese‑made vehicles could exceed 6.8 million units for the full year of 2025, which rises from 5.86 million units recorded in 2024.
Moreover, data published by the China Passenger Car Association indicates that 8.32 million vehicles were exported in 2025. Top three markets for which were Mexico (625,187 units), Russia (582,738 units), and the United Arab Emirates (571,937 units).
