GWM Wey G9 Receives 800 Bookings Within First Week of Launch

The new GWM Wey G9 MPV has received over 800 bookings within the first week of its Malaysian debut.
GWM Malaysia today announced that its recently-launched electrified MPV, the GWM Wey G9 Hi4 PHEV, has secured over 800 bookings within the first week of its launch. This milestone reflects strong early demands for this premium electrified MPV, as well as the growing interest in hybrid vehicles among Malaysians.
“We are encouraged by the strong response from Malaysian customers. For us, the bookings are more than a number, they show that customers understand what the WeyG9 stands for,” said Cui Anqi, Managing Director of GWM Malaysia.

GWM Malaysia Chief Operating Officer Roslan Abdullah
Meanwhile, GWM Malaysia Chief Operating Officer (COO) Roslan Abdullah said, “This milestone reflects not only strong consumer demand but also the capability of Malaysia’s local assembly ecosystem. By leveraging our skilled workforce and vendor network, we are proving that Malaysia can deliver global standards while building long-term value for the domestic industry.”

Launched back on Jan 29 this year, the Wey G9 marks a few firsts not only for GWM Malaysia but also for the whole local automotive industry. Not only is the Wey G9 the first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model launched by the automaker, but it is also the first luxury new energy MPV to be locally-assembled (CKD) here in Malaysia.

Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Sim Tze Tzin
This achievement was also noted by the Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Sim Tze Tzin, during his keynote speech at the launch, where he highlighted the strategic importance of the Wey G9 CKD operations to Malaysia’s automotive future.
“Local assembly allows GWM to capitalise on Malaysia’s Free Trade Agreements, paving the way for duty-free exports within the region. This initiative supports the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP 2030) by increasing economic complexity, strengthening domestic vendor participation, and enhancing technological depth through meaningful technology transfer,” the deputy minister added.

Back to the Wey G9, this PHEV MPV is one of the first models to feature GWM’s proprietary Hi4 intelligent hybrid system, which grants it up to 170 km of pure electric range and a comprehensive driving range of over 1,000 km from a single full tank and charge.

Retailing at just RM269,800, the Wey G9 CKD is positioned competitively within the local luxury MPV segment. Not to mention, said price is inclusive of a 6-year unlimited mileage base vehicle warranty plus a separate 8-year or 180,000 km coverage for its hybrid battery, power motor, and control unit.
