The Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link will feature 100 immigration e-gate lanes at the Bukit Chagar Integrated Immigration, Customs and Quarantine (ICQ) Complex, forming the backbone of a streamlined cross-border clearance process.

Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim said the e-gates are central to the co-located ICQ concept, allowing passengers to complete both Malaysian and Singapore immigration checks within a single facility before boarding the train.

Built to handle peak-hour demand, the Bukit Chagar ICQ will also be equipped with 10 security screening lanes for body checks, 18 baggage scanners and dedicated lanes for passengers travelling without luggage, all aimed at reducing congestion and maintaining smooth passenger flow.

Mohd Zarif said close coordination between Malaysian and Singapore immigration authorities, including the use of QR-code passport clearance, will reduce reliance on manual checks and provide a more predictable border-crossing experience.

The RTS Link is expected to carry around 40,000 passengers per day at the start of operations, with daily ridership projected to rise to about 140,000 over time. At maturity, this could account for 30 to 40% of total Causeway movements.

The co-located ICQ facilities at Bukit Chagar are a key pillar of the RTS Link’s ambition to operate as a world-class international gateway when the system begins service after construction is completed on Dec 31, 2026.

To support public engagement, MRT Corp has also established a Project Information Centre at its RTS Link office, featuring interactive kiosks and virtual walkthroughs of the rail alignment. The customer experience framework was shaped using insights from KLIA and benchmarked against international standards, including those at Changi Airport.
