A RM19k Price Drop You Didn't See Coming! 5 Reasons Melaka-Assembled MG S5 EV Buyers Are Lucky

Timing is everything in the car world, and for those looking to switch to electric this year, the stars have officially aligned.
With the official launch of the locally assembled (CKD) MG S5 EV, the brand has pulled off a rare feat. Often, local assembly is just about adjusting the price tag, but the units rolling out of the Melaka production line have actually "levelled up."
By tapping into local manufacturing, MG has managed to deliver a more powerful, feature-rich SUV that is now nearly RM20,000 more accessible than the original launch price. From a massive torque jump to "M'sian-weather" cooling features, here are 5 reasons why this Melaka-built beast is setting a new benchmark for 2026.
1. The "Secret" Power Level-Up
Usually, when a car becomes CKD, the engine stays the same. MG decided to throw that rulebook away.

The Upgrade: While the imported (CBU) version was limited to 170 PS and 250 Nm, the Melaka-built version has been "unlocked" to 205 PS (151kW) and a staggering 350 Nm of torque.
Why CBU owners are jealous: That’s an extra 100 Nm of torque for zero extra ringgit. It slashes the 0-100 km/h sprint to just 7.1 seconds, making it one of the punchiest SUVs in its class.
2. It’s RM19,000 Cheaper (No, Seriously)

Malaysians love a good deal, but this is next-level.
The Price Drop: When the top-spec LUX Long Range first arrived as an import, it carried a price tag of RM135,900. The new Melaka-built LUX Long Range? Only RM116,900.

LUX Long Range CBU was priced at RM135,900 when it first launched in Malaysia in May 2025.
The Math: You’re saving enough money to pay for your electricity bills for the next three years, or a very, very long holiday.
3. The "Anti-Sweat" Comfort Pack
MG clearly understood the assignment when it comes to our 35°C humidity. They didn't just build the car here; they specced it specifically for our sun.

The Upgrade: While the imported version featured a leather-fabric mix, the CKD LUX variant levels up to Full Leatherette with Active Ventilated Front Seats.
The Comfort: If you’ve ever sat in a car parked under the blazing sun at Mid Valley, you know how life-changing cooled seats are. Having actual fans blowing cool air through the seat isn't just a luxury, it’s a necessity for Malaysia. It’s a thoughtful addition that makes the "Made in Melaka" version feel like a true premium upgrade.
4. More Miles, Same Wait
Range anxiety is a thing of the past. While the 150kW DC charging remains lightning-fast, getting you from 10% to 80% in approximately 26 minutes, the Melaka-built model squeezes even more out of every charge.

The Range Win: The CKD model sees its driving range climb to 446 km (WLTP), up from the 430 km offered previously.
The Benefit: This extra mileage offers even more flexibility for your daily commute or those weekend interstate trips. It means you can grab a latte and a quick stretch at an R&R, and hit the road with more range than before to reach your destination.
5. The Same Trusted "Fortress" Warranty
While the price has dropped and the specs have gone up, MG hasn't compromised on protection. The Melaka-built units carry the same robust coverage that early adopters loved: an 8-year/180,000km battery warranty and an 8-year/160,000km motor warranty. It’s proof that "Made in Melaka" meets the same global standards as the imported units.
MG S5 EV CKD isn't just a "cheaper version", it’s the superior version. By streamlining the lineup to just the high-spec LUX variant, MG has made the choice easy for Malaysians: you get the best tech, the most power, and the lowest price.
