No More "Lorry Driver" Stereotypes? This New Truck Is Opening Doors For More Female Drivers In Malaysia

Think "lorry driver" and your mind probably goes straight to the classic "Abang Lori" stereotype, muscles, manual gear-shifting, and a lot of heavy lifting. But the era of the "tough guy" manual truck might be coming to an end, and it’s opening up a whole new career path for Malaysian women.
At the Malaysia Commercial Vehicle Expo 2026 (MCVE 2026), Angka-Tan Motor (ATM) just dropped a game-changer: the Foton Aumark S Euro 5 AMT.
It’s the first Chinese-brand light-duty truck in Malaysia to come with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). In plain English? It’s a truck that drives like an automatic, and it’s about to change the face of logistics in Malaysia.
The End of the "Clutch Struggle"

For decades, driving a light-duty truck meant wrestling with a heavy manual clutch, a major physical barrier that kept many people, especially women and younger Gen Z workers, out of the industry.
With the new AMT system, the gear-shifting struggle is officially over. By removing the need for constant manual shifting in "stop-and-go" city traffic, this truck reduces driver fatigue and makes handling a 9-ton vehicle as easy as driving a modern SUV.
Widening the Driver Pool (Hello, Kakak Lori!)

This launch isn't just about tech; it’s about inclusivity. During the launch, it was highlighted that this new AMT powertrain is a direct response to the need for "driver-friendly" trucks.

By making the driving experience more accessible and less physically demanding, business owners can now widen their driver pool. We aren't just talking about "Abang Lori" anymore, we’re paving the way for more "Kakak Lori" to take the wheel and rule the urban logistics landscape.
More Than Just an "Easy Drive"

Don't let the "easy" driving fool you, this truck is a beast under the hood:
- The Power: It’s packed with a Cummins 3.8-litre Euro 5 engine, meaning it’s powerful (154 PS and 500 Nm of torque) but also much cleaner for our city air.
- The Safety: It’s loaded with tech to keep drivers safe, including Hill Start Assist (no more scary roll-backs on slopes!), ABS, and Anti-Slip Regulation.
- The Reliability: This model has been tested over 3,000,000 km in real-world conditions. It’s built to handle the tropical heat and narrow delivery routes of Malaysia.
A Smart Move for Business Owners
Priced at RM128,800, the Foton Aumark S also comes with a massive 6-year or 300,000km warranty. For business owners, this means lower maintenance costs and a happier, less exhausted workforce.
Whether it's for last-mile deliveries or moving heavy cargo, the shift toward automatic trucks is making the industry more efficient, more professional, and, most importantly, more inclusive.
