5 Upgrades That Make The New Nissan X-Trail Facelift (First In The Region!) Worth Waiting For This Q4

The newly unveiled Nissan X-Trail Facelift is currently taking absolute center stage at the Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) booth at Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS 2026), which is running at MITEC until 21 June.
By securing the updated global T33 facelift right out of the gate, Malaysia gets to flex its bragging rights as the very first market in the region to showcase it, leaving our neighboring countries in the rearview mirror.
ETCM has officially confirmed a Q4 2026 local launch timeline. If you’ve been waiting for a spacious ride that actually feels like an executive lounge, here are 5 upgrades that prove this upcoming X-Trail is worth the wait:
1. A bold new 'V-Motion' grille that ditches the old look

Up front, Nissan has given the X-Trail a much-needed visual glow-up. The old front grille has been completely swapped out and replaced by a highly cohesive, modern design featuring sharp horizontal slats and dashes.
Combined with fresh front and rear bumpers, aggressive new gloss-black side trim pieces, and a new accent trim that links the side intakes to the lower grille surround, this SUV packs serious street presence.
2. A pure electric driving experience... with ZERO charging plugs
This is where the X-Trail completely redefines what a "hybrid" can be. Under the hood sits a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine. But here is the kicker: the engine never actually drives the wheels directly. Instead, it acts purely as an onboard generator to charge a 1.8-kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
The battery then feeds power to two electric motors. This means you get the instant torque, whisper-quiet cabin, and smooth acceleration of a pure electric vehicle, but you fill it up with petrol at a standard gas station. No EV charging anxiety, ever!
3. Hyper-advanced 'e-4orce' AWD made for Malaysian rain

Because the battery delivers power to a pair of dedicated electric motors, one on each axle, the X-Trail comes equipped with Nissan's advanced e-4orce all-wheel-drive system. The front motor pushes out 204 PS and 330 Nm, while the rear motor kicks in an extra 136 PS and 195 Nm. This brings the total combined system output to a fierce 213 PS and a massive 525 Nm of maximum torque!
This system isn't just about speed, though. Because electric motors can monitor and adjust traction to all four wheels virtually instantaneously compared to a traditional mechanical AWD setup, it provides unbelievable grip and stability when handling sudden, heavy Malaysian downpours on the highway.
4. Aggressive new 19-inch wheels and sleek exterior trims

Aside from the bold new grille, look closer at the sides and rear of the vehicle to spot the rest of the facelift upgrades. The X-Trail now gains incredibly sharp, brand-new 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels that fill up the arches beautifully.
Nissan has also traded in the older generation's plain plastic body molding for aggressive, premium gloss-black trim pieces along the sides and rear bumper, topped off with a high-contrast chrome finish. It completely alters the vehicle's profile, making it look much lower, wider, and sportier than before.
5. Premium, upscale creature comforts for the whole family

Nissan didn't hold back on turning this 7-seater into an absolute premium cruiser. The model previewed at KLIMS 2026 comes absolutely packed with top-tier lifestyle features. Up front, you get a highly digitized driver's cockpit featuring a massive 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a matching 12.3-inch central touchscreen, and an expansive 10.8-inch head-up display (HUD) that projects your driving data directly onto the windshield.

The rest of the family gets to enjoy a premium 9-speaker Bose sound system for concert-like road trip audio, a gorgeous panoramic sunroof that floods the cabin with natural light, and the versatility of a 40:20:40-split second row and a 50:50-split third row. Throw in three-zone climate control, black leather upholstery, a hands-free powered tailgate, and a 15-watt wireless charger, and long interstate road trips just became everyone's favorite activity.
The Extra Peace of Mind
While official local safety specs will be detailed closer to the Q4 launch, the X-Trail is expected to arrive with Nissan's full 360 Safety Shield advanced driver assistance suite. Looking at neighboring regional variants, this means your family will be protected by smart tech like:
- Intelligent Forward Collision Warning (IFCW)
- Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC)
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
- A 360-degree camera equipped with Moving Object Detection for stress-free parking.
With its brilliant e-Power technology, premium cabin upgrades, and the fact that Malaysia gets to experience it before our neighbors, the upcoming Nissan X-Trail facelift is shaping up to be a formidable challenger in the SUV market.
