Range Rover Velar

Sporty, luxurious and technologically advanced, the Range Rover Velar, gracing Malaysians with its 2024 model year enhancements. 

Moniker L560, the midsize luxury SUV resides between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport in the brand’s repertoire. 

It comes with a myriad of personalisation options, ranging from technologies and equipment, interior trim materials and finishes, and exterior colour schemes.

Fully-imported (CBU), Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia (JLRM) offers the new Velar in P250 Dynamic SE (spec - M, H) and P250 Dynamic HSE (spec - L) trimlines.

Price starts from MYR 638,800 (w/o - on-road costs, options), and comes with the Land Rover Care programme (standard warranty - five-year/65,000 KM). 

Exterior colours. Varesine Blue, Zadar Grey, Fuji White, Santorini Black, Hakuba Silver, Ostuni Pearl White, Carpathian Grey, Arroios Grey, and Charente Grey.

The new Range Rover Velar has a sophisticatedly modern and highly premium designed dashboard, underpinned by a very minimalistic nature.

It is decked in black semi-aniline leather, with Moonlight Chrome trimmings around the steering wheel, air-vents and centre console.

Complementing those are natural wood veneers (Technical Light Anodised, Dark Anodised Aluminium, Tactile Shadow Grey Ash).

Seamlessly airy, the layout is occupied by a centre-floating touchscreen, linked to a flat-designed centre console (fully-covered with gear knob only).

Overall, the setup is futuristic-esque, with every accessibility being touch-oriented (touchscreen unit - side bar controls), deleted of physical buttons.

Installed is a 12.3-Inch Interactive Driver Display, with high-definition graphics and a configurable layout. 

It comes with a coloured Heads-Up Display (HUD), and supports full-screen 3D navigation, driving information and audio.

Upgraded, interior of the five-seater comes in a leather-free upholstery (‘Ultrafabrics’ - ‘Kvadrat’), with multiple hues (Cloud, Caraway, Raven Blue, Deep Garnet). 

Comfortably premium, all seats are power adjustable with memory (driver side) and heating/cooling functions, powered recline (rear), and armrests (front, rear).

Completing the environment is a 30-colour ambient light system (HSE L), heightening the Ebony Morzine headlining (Panoramic glass sunroof - HSE L).

Courtesy of the fairly stocky silhouette, it offers plenty of head, shoulder and leg rooms, thus front and rear occupants get ample space.

Mounted is a three-spoke standard (SE M, SE H) and leather (HSE L) steering wheel, featuring multi-switches (touch-based - media, vehicle telematics), and column adjustments (electric). 

Steering is aided by an Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) system.

The centre console, deleted of buttons and dials, makes room for the extra spacious armrest that has a large cavern storage compartment underneath. 

Elsewhere, it has other hidden centre console partitioned storage areas, large-sized door and back seat pockets, and a decent-sized glove box.

Multiple cup holders, a couple at the front and rear seatings, and there are also four bottle holders, located at each side door pocket.

Numerous charging outlets. E.g., 12 V sockets, USB ports, and a wireless charger.

Accessing its powered-tailgate (contactless), opens up to 568-Litres (seats up) and 1,374-Litres (seats down) of load space.

Weighing in at 2,550 KG, the new Range Rover Velar stands at 4,797 MM long, 2,147 MM wide, 1,678 MM tall, and with a wheelbase spanning 2,874 MM.

Refined with modern details instead of a complete overhaul, its familiar build now exudes a more luxuriously solid silhouette.

A sporty outlook, the front-end sees a seamlessly-designed bonnet and bumper, made up of smooth edges and creases.

The top half is commanded by the ‘Range Rover’ script and a new rectangular grille, while the lower half by a stretched-out rectangular intake.

Flanking the latter is a set of horizontally-fitted P-shaped intakes. All fitments are finished in black.

An elegant profile, the rear-end exudes a design harmonious with the front, contoured by rounded angles and clean surfaces.

The slightly-sloping roofline sees a shark fin antenna, paired to a subtle yet sporty roof-edge spoiler. 

Featured in the middle of the tailgate is the ‘Range Rover’ script, bordered by a bar stretching across connecting the tail lamps.

Accentuating the layout is a new bold-looking bumper, integrated with a silver diffuser. All fitments are finished in black.

Adhering to the scheme, the headlamps are shaped elegantly slim, and are linked by the grille in a one-piece design. 

Installed are LED units with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL), auto On/Off and Auto High Beam Assist (AHBA).

Variant HSE L upgrades to Pixel LED units with Jewel-like LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL).

Slim and wrapped-around, the tail lamps see a seamless fitment, matching the front’s layout well. Installed are 3D LED units. 

The side mirrors are electronically-powered (adjust, fold), with blind spot indicators, and heating, approach light and auto-dimming functions.

Variant SE M brandishes a set of 20-Inch ten-spoke gloss black, Style 1089 alloy rims, while variants SE H and HSE L a set of 22-Inch ten-spoke gloss dark grey/gloss black with diamond turned finish, Style 1075 alloy rims.

Installed is a 11.4-Inch high-resolution floating curved glass central touchscreen, featuring the Pivi Pro infotainment system.

The unit supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (wireless), Bluetooth, streaming, Wi-Fi, sim card (Online Pack with Data Plan), navigation and voice control.

New is the constantly-present sidebar (both ends - on screen), controlling the interior amenities. 

Equipped is the Meridian Signature Sound System (1,300 W, 23 speakers).

Nestled in the new Range Rover Velar is the familiar 2.0-Litre turbocharged in-line four-cylinder P250 Ingenium petrol engine, producing 247 HP and 365 NM of torque.

Mated to the engine is a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission.

Power is transmitted to all four wheels, via an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 KM/H is done in 7.5 seconds, and top speed is 217 KM/H.

There are rear air-conditioning vents present.

The seats are highly-bolstered and plush, and the cabin is spacious providing a very comfortable experience.

All these elements provide for a solid and firm drive, very suitable as a daily driver. Inside and out, performance- and comfort-wise, overall ride quality is sublime.

Variants SE H and HSE L feature Adaptive Dynamics suspensions, Electronic Air Suspension, and Configurable Dynamics (throttle mapping, gearbox shifts, steering settings, suspension).

The new Range Rover Velar is built with a sportily elegant character, while boasting a highly-advanced personality.

Its refined exterior is very well designed, with the clean and seamless lines donating a powerful overall contour. 

The quality of the equipment installed inside, impresses with the upscale, mature design and restrained detailing.

Overall, the 2024 Range Rover Velar bargains a little bit of everything, and notably, an absolute driving pleasure with its engaging driving dynamics.
