Reviews

Summary

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA 250+ with EQ Technology is the first fully electric version of the third-generation CLA and is offered in Malaysia solely in AMG Line specification.

Built on the new Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA), it uses a rear-mounted 200 KW (268 HP) electric motor producing 335 NM, paired with an 85 KWH NMC battery and a two-speed transmission. Official range reaches up to 792 KM WLTP, or 748 KM with the Malaysian equipment specification.

The CLA 250+ AMG Line is priced at RM274,888 on-the-road without insurance.

Interior

Dashboard

The CLA introduces the new MBUX Superscreen, spanning almost the full width of the dashboard.

It combines a 10.25-INCH digital instrument display, a 14-INCH central touchscreen and a second 14-INCH front passenger display, creating a three-screen digital cockpit.

Centre Console

The cabin adopts a minimalist centre-console arrangement that complements the wide digital dashboard.

Frequently used functions are increasingly integrated into the MBUX interface, while wireless smartphone charging is also provided as standard.

Instrument Cluster

Driver information is presented through a 10.25-INCH digital instrument display integrated into the MBUX Superscreen.

It operates on the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), allowing driving, navigation and assistance information to be presented within the digital cockpit.

Seats

AMG Line specification brings electrically adjustable sports seats with memory functionality.

The seats are upholstered in black ARTICO synthetic leather and DINAMICA microfibre, complementing the sportier cabin theme.

Space

The CLA accommodates five occupants, with its longer 2,790 MM wheelbase providing improved passenger accommodation compared to its predecessor.

The stretched roofline also contributes to an additional 28 MM of rear headroom, improving usability for second-row occupants despite the coupé-like exterior profile.

Steering Functions

The CLA 250+ AMG Line receives a flat-bottomed, double-spoke multifunction steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather.

Mercedes-Benz has reintroduced physical rocker and roller controls alongside its capacitive touch interfaces, providing more tactile operation of key functions.

Storage Space

Practical storage areas are incorporated throughout the centre console and door sections for smaller everyday items.

Beyond the passenger compartment, the electric architecture also enables a dedicated 101 L front luggage compartment beneath the bonnet.

Cup Holders

Cup holders are integrated within the front centre-console area for convenient access by the driver and front passenger.

The cabin's storage layout is designed to retain everyday practicality despite the CLA's low-slung four-door coupé styling.

Charging Ports

A Qi wireless smartphone charging pad is equipped as standard.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also provided for smartphone integration, while the Malaysian launch specification does not separately detail the number of physical USB connections.

Build Quality

The AMG Line cabin combines ARTICO synthetic leather and DINAMICA microfibre upholstery with AMG floor mats and metallic sports pedals.

A 64-colour ambient lighting system, expansive panoramic glass roof and MBUX Superscreen further enhance the cabin's premium and technology-focused appearance.

Boot Space

Rear luggage capacity stands at 405 L.

The fully electric platform also provides a 101 L front boot, marking the first dedicated front luggage compartment offered on a Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle.

Exterior

Body Dimensions

The new CLA measures 4,723 MM in length, 1,855 MM in width and 1,468 MM in height, with its wheelbase spanning 2,790 MM.

Compared to its predecessor, it is 35 MM longer, 25 MM wider and 29 MM taller, while the wheelbase has grown by 61 MM.

Front View

Up front, the electric CLA features a distinctive trapezoidal closed-off panel incorporating an illuminated Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star and 142 individually illuminated smaller stars.

The AMG Line specification adds a more aggressive front bumper, while the full-width lighting arrangement emphasises the car's low and wide stance.

Rear View

The rear retains the CLA's characteristic sweeping coupé-like roofline, now extended further rearwards to improve rear passenger headroom.

AMG Line-specific rear bumper styling, a short rear deck and a full-width visual lighting treatment contribute to its sportier appearance.

Headlamps

Malaysian-specification models receive MULTIBEAM LED headlamps incorporating distinctive illuminated three-pointed-star signatures.

Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus is also standard, automatically controlling the high beam while reducing glare for surrounding traffic.

Tail Lamps

The rear lighting continues the Mercedes-Benz star motif, with three-pointed-star graphics integrated into the LED tail lamps.

Their shape mirrors the tapered full-width front lighting design, creating a distinctive lighting signature at both ends of the vehicle.

Side Mirror

The exterior mirrors are mounted on separate stalks rather than directly onto the window frame, contributing to the CLA's aerodynamically optimised profile.

Together with flush pop-out door handles, partially sealed body joints and extensive underbody shielding, the design contributes to a drag coefficient as low as 0.21.

Brakes

The conventional braking system is supplemented by a powerful regenerative braking setup capable of recuperating up to 200 KW.

It can provide up to 3 M/S² of regenerative deceleration and is capable of bringing the vehicle to a complete stop without relying solely on the friction brakes.

Wheels

The Malaysian CLA 250+ AMG Line rides on 19-INCH AMG five-twin-spoke alloy wheels.

Their design complements the more aggressive AMG Line front and rear bumpers while retaining the aerodynamic focus of the electric CLA.

Features

Active Safety

The CLA 250+ combines its conventional braking system with regenerative deceleration of up to 200 KW.

Parking assistance is supported by a 360-degree camera system and automated parking functions, while Parking Automatic Emergency Braking can intervene when an obstacle is detected during low-speed manoeuvres.

Passive Safety

The Malaysian CLA 250+ is equipped with eight airbags, including front, side and curtain airbags.

Additional protection is provided by a driver's knee airbag and a centre airbag positioned between the front occupants.

Drive Modes

Regenerative braking can be adjusted through steering-wheel paddles, with three selectable recuperation levels including a coasting setting.

An adaptive recuperation mode is also available, automatically adjusting regenerative deceleration according to surrounding driving conditions.

Infotainment

The MBUX Superscreen runs on the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS).

Its MBUX Virtual Assistant incorporates generative AI, using ChatGPT and Microsoft Bing for general enquiries while Google Gemini assists with navigation-related functions.

Navigation itself uses Google Maps, while wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remain supported.

Driver Assistance

Standard MB.Drive assistance features include Autonomous Emergency Braking, Evasive Steering Assist, DISTRONIC Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, curve speed reduction and Lane Keeping Assist.

Also equipped are Blind Spot Monitoring with collision avoidance, Traffic Sign Recognition, Emergency Stop Assist and Parking Automatic Emergency Braking.

More advanced Level 2 functionality including lane centring and automated lane-changing forms part of the separately subscribed MB.Drive Assist package rather than the standard Malaysian specification.

Sound System

The Malaysian CLA 250+ is equipped with an eight-speaker audio system.

Media, connected applications and audio controls are accessed primarily through the central 14-INCH MBUX touchscreen.

Performance

Engine

Being fully electric, the CLA 250+ replaces a combustion engine with a rear-mounted electric motor.

It produces 200 KW (268 HP) and 335 NM, providing the balance between performance and high energy efficiency required for its long-range positioning.

Transmission

Unlike most EVs, the CLA 250+ uses a two-speed automatic transmission.

The lower ratio assists acceleration and efficiency at lower speeds, while the taller second ratio helps maintain efficiency and allows a relatively high 210 KM/H top speed.

Drivetrain

The CLA 250+ uses a single-motor rear-wheel-drive configuration.

Its electric drive unit is mounted at the rear axle, retaining the rear-driven character traditionally associated with larger Mercedes-Benz models.

Acceleration

The 200 KW and 335 NM electric drivetrain accelerates the CLA 250+ from 0-100 KM/H in 6.7 seconds.

Top speed stands at 210 KM/H.

Fuel Consumption

Being fully electric, the CLA 250+ consumes no petrol or diesel.

It uses an 85 KWH NMC battery, with energy consumption as low as 12.2 KWH/100 KM and a maximum claimed WLTP driving range of 792 KM. With the Malaysian equipment specification, rated range stands at approximately 748 KM WLTP.

Its 800-VOLT architecture supports up to 320 KW DC fast charging, enabling a 10-80% recharge in approximately 22 minutes. AC charging is rated at 11 KW, with a full charge taking around nine hours.

The Malaysian model does not receive the optional 400-VOLT DC converter, meaning compatibility with certain 400-VOLT DC charging stations is limited.

Comfort

Convenience

Standard equipment includes dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic glass roof with heat-rejection coating, 64-colour ambient lighting and Qi wireless smartphone charging.

Also included are smartphone Digital Key pre-installation, an interior selfie and video camera, a 360-degree camera system and a HANDS-FREE ACCESS powered boot lid.

The panoramic roof does not include a physical sunshade.

Rear Air Vents

Dedicated rear air-conditioning vents are provided for second-row occupants.

They operate together with the standard dual-zone automatic climate-control system to improve airflow throughout the cabin.

Ride Comfort

The Malaysian CLA 250+ is equipped with passive comfort suspension.

The setup is tuned to balance everyday ride quality with stable handling, complementing the low centre of gravity of its underfloor battery arrangement.

Sound Insulation

The electric drivetrain eliminates conventional engine noise and significantly reduces powertrain vibration during normal driving.

The Malaysian specification does not specifically list dedicated acoustic glazing or an active noise-cancellation system, placing greater emphasis on the inherently quiet electric drivetrain and overall cabin refinement.

Wrap Up

Conclusion

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA 250+ marks a major transformation for the CLA, moving the third-generation model onto a dedicated electric architecture while retaining its familiar four-door coupé character.

Its 268 HP rear-wheel-drive powertrain, unusual two-speed transmission, 85 KWH battery and up to 792 KM WLTP range place efficiency at the centre of the package, while the 800-VOLT electrical system enables extremely rapid 320 KW DC charging.

Combined with the MBUX Superscreen, MB.OS, AMG Line styling and extensive digital technology, the CLA 250+ represents Mercedes-Benz's latest approach to an entry-level premium electric sedan in Malaysia, priced from RM274,888.
