Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC Coupe

Months after its global reveal, the second-generation Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe (C254), officially launched in Malaysia.

The new compact luxury SUV is a sportier alternative to the regular and also recently launched, GLC 300 model.

Fully-imported (CBU) with a locally-assembled (CKD) production ensuing after, the sole variant, GLC 300 4MATIC Coupe, is priced at MYR 469,888.

Price is on-the-road, without insurance, and comes with a standard four-year/unlimited mileage warranty (whichever comes first).

Exterior colours. Polar White, Spectral Blue, Graphite Grey, Mojave Silver, High-tech Silver, and Nautic Blue. 

Dashboard of the new GLC Coupe is highly premium and sportily elegant. It is in a cascading style layout, adorned by the AMG Line Interior trim.

Organised, the upper section has a wing-like profile with flattened-round nozzles reminiscent of the engine nacelles of an aircraft.

Then, the lower section has a trim area that flows harmoniously into the curved metal-structure finished centre console.

A very posh yet edgy design, the dash combines Artico man-made black Nappa leather finish with metal structure trim panels as standard. 

Overall, the accessibilities are driver centric and strategic, especially the high-end infotainment unit, which is driver-angled for convenience. 

Part of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) multimedia system, installed is a 12.3-Inch fully-digital instrument cluster (customisable layout) with a Head-Up Display (HUD).

Interior of the five-seater sees the AMG Line Interior trim in Artico man-made full-black Nappa leather upholstery as standard. Optional, two-tone Sienna Brown/Black hue.

Premium and comfortable, fitted in the front are sports seats with power adjustments, memory, heating and ventilation functions, and a four-way lumbar support, 

Whereas, the rear seats come with an armrest, and feature a 40:20:40 split-fold (button-operated) function.

Accentuating the cabin are AMG floor mats, AMG sports pedal cluster, a panoramic glass roof framed by a black fabric headliner, and a 64-colour ambient lighting system.

Comfortable cabin space, offering generous head, shoulder and leg rooms for the front and rear occupants.

Space is generous due to the increased dimensions (+31 MM length, +5 MM height, +6 MM front track width, +23 MM rear track width). 

Mounted is a three-twin-spoke and flat-bottomed sports steering wheel, wrapped in black Nappa leather with silver trimmings.

Features are multi-switches (haptic-touch - media, vehicle settings), electronic adjustments (tilt, telescopic), and silver-chrome paddle shifters.

Aiding the drive is an Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) system.

Numerous storage areas. E.g., centre console partitioned spaces with under-stowage, a large-sized glove box, and seat back and side door pockets.

There are four cup holders and four bottle holders, strategically located around the cabin (front, rear).

Equipped with the USB Package, it comes with multiple USB ports and 12 V sockets, and a wireless charger.

Load volume is 545-Litres (seats up), expandable up to 1,490-Litres with the rear seats folded. 

The boot features the EASY-PACK tailgate (contactless, foot sensor), EASY-PACK load compartment cover, and Boot Comfort package.

Weighing in at 1,945 KG, the new GLC Coupe stands at 4,764 MM long, 2,075 MM wide, 1,605 MM tall, and with a wheelbase spanning 2,888 MM.

Sportily luxurious, it exudes a dynamically solid exterior with clean surfaces, decked-out in the AMG Line Exterior kit.

The front-end sees a lightly-contoured bonnet, body-coloured wheel arches, a new Mercedes-Benz chrome grille, aggressive air-curtains, and black trimmings.

Clean and sporty, the rear-end has a dynamically curvaceous silhouette, parading smoothly-sculpted surfaces.

Features are a coupe roofline, a tailgate-moulded spoiler, body-coloured wheel arches, and a black lower bumper with slim corner air-curtains and a chrome diffuser.

A slim lightbar design, installed is a two-section tail lamp with three-dimensional light graphics and light animation option. They are full LED units.

Electronically-powered (fold, adjust), the side mirrors have turn- and blind spot-indicators, as well as an automatic dimming function.

Latching it to the ground is a set of 20-Inch AMG multi-spoke, black with high-sheen finish light-alloy rims.

The new GLC Coupe adopts the following set of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). 

Included are Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Brake Assist, Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC, Parking Package with 360-degree camera, Blind Spot Assist, PRE-SAFE System, Adaptive High Beam Assist Plus, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), passive cruise control, and hill-start assist.

Passive safety includes seven airbags (driver-passenger, driver knee, front side, front-rear curtain), airbag auto-deactivation (front passenger), seat belts (reminder, pretensioner, anchor), ISOFIX, interior monitoring system, parking sensors (front, rear), parking cameras (reverse, 360-degree), Guard 360-degree Vehicle Protection, break-in resistant and heat/noise-insulating laminated safety glass, TIREFIT, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), anti-theft alarm with preinstallation for collision detection, and engine immobiliser. 

Drive modes available via DYNAMIC SELECT are Eco, Comfort, Sport, Individual and Off-Road.

Part of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) multimedia system, it sees a vertically-mounted (portrait) 11.9-Inch digital infotainment central display. 

The setup supports multimedia, navigation (augmented reality, live traffic info), voice control, climate control, fingerprint scanner (MBUX custom drive settings), and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity (wired).

Audio is by a 15-speaker (710 W) Burmester 3D surround sound system. 

The new GLC 300 Coupe harbours an M254 2.0-Litre, turbocharged four-cylinder 16-valve, DOHC petrol engine, producing 258 HP/190 KW at 5,800 RPM and 400 NM of torque at 2,000 to 3,200 RPM.

Mated to the mill is a 48 V mild hybrid setup, utilising a second-generation Integrated Starter-Generator (ISG), providing an extra boost of 23 HP/17 KW and 200 NM.

Installed is a 9G-Tronic, nine-speed automatic transmission.

Power is transmitted to all four wheels, via Mercedes’ fully-variable 4MATIC All-Wheel Drive (4WD) system.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 KM/H is done in 6.3 seconds, and the top speed reaches 246 KM/H.

Fuel tank capacity is at 62-Litres.

Air-conditioning vents provided at the rear cabin.

Incorporated is a sport suspension system in combination with a front axle steering system, providing for a firm and solid driving dynamic.

Elsewhere, it is very spacious and extremely comfortable, very suitable as a daily driver. Inside and out, performance- and comfort-wise, ride quality is satisfactory.

Good sound insulation with most of the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) aspects accounted for. 

Part of the aero-acoustic measures used at reducing wind, tyre and road noises include the installation of heat- and noise-insulating acoustic glass.

Overall, the cabin is able to suppress unwanted noises well, and make them barely noticeable even when cruising through bumpy asphalts. 

The new Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC Coupe is built with an elegantly sporty appeal, while still being able to offer space and practicality.

Exterior-wise, it is very well designed with elegant and seamless lines donating a powerful overall contour, emphasising its wide body scale. 

Quality-wise, the equipment and materials installed inside are also impressive with the upscale, mature design and restrained detailing. 

Overall, offering more than just good looks, it also provides an absolute driving pleasure with its dual-natured drive.
