Toyota GR Supra

Sportiest of the GR bunch, one of Toyota’s highly revered performance models, the new GR Supra (A90 – 5th-generation), upgraded and launched in Malaysia.

An S-segment (two-door coupe) contender, it comes in the ‘Track Edition’ guise (replaces the standard Supra) and two transmission types (manual, automatic).

Fully imported (CBU – Austria), available via UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT – GR Garage – authorised dealer) are two variants (GR Supra Track Edition 3.0 M/T, GR Supra Track Edition 3.0 A/T).

Priced (OTR, w/o insurance) at MYR 698,000 and MYR 708,000 respectively, included is a standard vehicle warranty (five years, unlimited mileage).

Eight (single-tone) exterior colours (Prominence Red, Plasma Orange, White Metallic, Black Metallic, Dawn Blue Metallic, Matte Avalanche White Metallic, Matte Storm Grey Metallic, Volcanic Ash Grey Metallic). One (single-tone) interior colour (Black – Red contrast accents).

The new GR Supra Track Edition gets a GR-cockpit (driver-focused), featuring a tiered and tilted dashboard (driver-side – 15-degree), linked to a low-rising centre console (raised-shifter – 75 MM).

Soft-/hard-touched, it sees a single-tone (Black) colour scheme with contrast trims (GR Gun Metallic: dash, steering wheel, centre console, doors/Red: shifter knob – GR Supra Track Edition 3.0 M/T, dash, steering wheel, doors).

Filling-up the spaces are driver/central displays (instrument cluster/infotainment), full-span air-conditioning vents (physical controls) and sport pedals (Aluminium).

Inclusively, the layout is well-designed and non-cluttered. Ergonomically arranged with easy reachability (driver-centric, passenger-oriented).

A GR driver display (instrument cluster), fitted is an 8.8-Inch Colour Thin-Film Transistor (TFT) Multi-Information Display (MID), with a Heads-Up Display (HUD).

The setup comes with an exclusive GR start-up animation, drive-mode-dependent layouts, and other driving functions (‘Track Edition’ telematics).

Sportily comfortable, the interior sees leather-Alcantara (Black) upholstery with contrast stitching (Red) and GR embroidery (Black-Red – headrests).

Installed are electric-powered (driver/passenger: eight-way-adjust, four-way-lumbar, backrest-width-adjust, two-position-driver-memory) bucket seats.

Included are armrests (centre console), GR seatbelts (Red), GR floor mats (GR logos) and a fabric headliner (Black).

Mounted is a GR steering wheel (three-spoke-round), wrapped in leather (Black) with contrast trims/stitching (GR Gun Metallic/Red) and GR emblem (Black-Red-Chrome – bottom-spoke).

Weighing in at 1,575 KG (GR Supra Track Edition 3.0 M/T) and 1,600 KG (GR Supra Track Edition 3.0 A/T), the new GR Supra Track Edition measures at 4,379 MM long, 1,867 MM wide, 1,299 MM tall and with a wheelbase spanning 2,470 MM.

Aerodynamically sporty, its exterior exudes an athletically planted stance, emphasised by sharply rounded and highly sculpted contours.

A long-overhang, the front-end sees a clamshell bonnet (side vents), smooth quarter panels (wheel arch flaps) and Toyota’s GR bumper (split construction: three-split grille – side vents – lip – tyre spats).

Accentuations, body trimmings (Black: grille, vents, front/side lips, wheel arch flaps, tyre spats, side mirrors, window surrounds) and Toyota emblem (Black-Chrome).

Widely toned, it continues the athletically planted profile, emphasised by cleanly formed and vertically rounded surfaces.

A short-overhang, the rear-end sees a coupe roofline (double-bubble formed), a tapered tailgate (ducktail boot-lid spoiler: Carbon Fibre), flared quarter panels (wheel arch flaps) and Toyota’s GR bumper (diffuser, vents, dual-sport exhausts, lip).

Accentuations, body trimmings (Black: spoiler, diffuser, vents, front/side lips, wheel arch flaps, window surrounds – Chrome: exhausts) and Toyota/Supra/GR emblems (Black-Chrome/Chrome/Black-Red-Chrome).

Sharply rounded, the headlamps are framed inward-tilted with pointed inner edges. Installed are full LED units.

Features are automatic On/Off/levelling, Daytime Running Lights (DRL – LED), Adaptive High Beam (AHB), cornering/welcome lights and sequential turn signals (LED).

Angularly slim, the smoked-out (Black tint) tail lamps are framed horizontally sunken with pointed edges. Installed are LED combination units.

Features are automatic On/Off, welcome lights and sequential turn signals (LED). Paired to the layout is a centre-mounted stop light (diffuser integrated).

Gripping it to the tarmac is a set of 19-Inch single-tone (Matte Black) 10-spoke (BBS Forged) aluminium-alloy rims, wrapped in 255/35Z R19 (front) and 275/35Z R19 (rear) Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres.

Installed is an 8.8-Inch touchscreen central display (infotainment), with a touchpad remote controller. 

The system supports vehicle telematics, Apple CarPlay (wireless), live navigation, USB and Bluetooth.

Entertainment is channelled via a JBL HiFi surround sound system (12 speakers).

The new GR Supra Track Edition (GR Supra Track Edition 3.0 M/T, GR Supra Track Edition 3.0 A/T) nestles an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) powertrain.

Cocooned is a 3.0-Litre, in-line six-cylinder 24-valve, twin-scroll turbocharged Direct Injection DOHC with Dual VVT-i, petrol engine (B58), outputting 383 HP (286 KW) at 5,800 RPM to 6,500 RPM and 500 NM at 1,800 to 5,000 RPM.

Mated to the mill is a six-speed (rev-matching) with iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) manual transmission (GR Supra Track Edition 3.0 M/T) and an eight-speed with paddle shifters automatic transmission (GR Supra Track Edition 3.0 A/T).

Power is sent to the rear wheels (GR Supra Track Edition 3.0 M/T, GR Supra Track Edition 3.0 A/T), via a Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) system.

Incorporated is an Active Limited Slip Differential (‘Track Edition’ Control tuned – electronic limited slip differential – e-LSD) and an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system (‘Track Edition’ Control tuned – ‘Track Edition’ control map).

Acceleration from 0 to 100 KM/H is done in 4.4 seconds (GR Supra Track Edition 3.0 M/T) and 4.1 seconds (GR Supra Track Edition 3.0 A/T) and top speed is electronically capped at 250 KM/H (GR Supra Track Edition 3.0 M/T, GR Supra Track Edition 3.0 A/T).

Fuel tank capacity is at 52-Litres (GR Supra Track Edition 3.0 M/T, GR Supra Track Edition 3.0 A/T).

The new Toyota GR Supra Track Edition is a sportily dynamic daily driver, offering a powerful performance and the style to match.

Strikingly, the exterior boasts a very sporty and athletic outlook, with sharp proportions, powerful contours and an aggressively planted stance.
