Topless Aston Martin DBR22 concept speedster unveiled

Say hello to the Aston Martin DBR22 speedster. This latest concept from the Gaydon-based sportscar marque celebrates 10 years of Q by Aston Martin – the brand’s customer customisation arm named after a famed character from the James Bond movie franchise.

Though unveiled as a ‘concept’, Aston Martin did confirm that the DBR22 will be a “production reality for select Q by Aston Martin customers”. This explains the rather concrete performance figures released by Aston Martin for the DBR22 concept.

The open-top, two-seat speedster is powered by the brand’s signature 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 offering 705 HP and 753 NM. Paired with an 8-speed automatic box, the DBR22 is capable of dispatching 0-100 kmh in just 3.4 secs before hitting its claimed V-max of 319 kmh.

As for its styling, Aston Martin has taken much inspiration from its DBR1 race car Le Mans winner. Much of its exterior panels were crafted through aluminium 3D-printing and rich use of carbon-fibre.

The DBR22’s rear subframe, on the other hand, consists of multiple 3D-printed aluminium pieces that have been bonded instead of being riveted or welded, which Aston Martin says offers greater weight savings.

Other notable traits include the DBR1-style carbon fibre grille, custom 21-inch wheels with centre-locking, as well as carbon fibre seats and ‘aromatic leather’ cabin trims.

The Aston Martin DBR22 concept will make its debut public appearance at this month’s Monterey Car Week. As for the aforementioned “production reality”, Aston Martin will reportedly build 10 examples of the final production car (one to mark each year since Q was formed), tagged at around £1.5 million (approx. RM8.07 million) apiece.
