Electronic Driving Test System Will Be Rolled Out At Year End - Loke

Malaysia's Transport Minister, Anthony Loke, has announced the nationwide implementation of an electronic driving test system in an effort to increase transparency and fairness in the acquisition of driving licences.
This new system is currently in the proof of concept (POC) stage, and certain policies and procedures need to be refined further before full implementation. Five driving schools in Johor, Penang, Kedah, and Selangor have already received the e-testing system and are ready to implement it once it has passed the proof-of-concept stage.
Loke has stated unequivocally that the Ministry will not require driving schools to use a specific vendor's system, thereby avoiding monopolistic practises.
Driving schools are free to select their preferred vendor as long as the chosen system meets the specifications and standards set by the Road Transport Department (JPJ). Members of the Malaysian Driving Institute Association (Pima) will be able to use Pima's own system or another vendor of their choice.
Although the new e-testing system is not required for students or driving schools, it is expected to result in a significant reduction in unethical practises such as obtaining driving licences through corrupt means, also known as "Lesen Kopi."
In addition to preventing corruption allegations against JPJ officers and driving schools, the system protects students. It allows students to review their tests if they fail, increasing the transparency and fairness of the testing process.
The electronic driving test system is expected to be implemented across the country by the end of the year. According to the Transport Minister, procedures and details must be refined before the e-testing system can be implemented.
He is confident that the concept is sound because it has been through the development phase, but several policies and procedures must still be established and refined. The Minister has discussed the issue with the secretary-general of the Transport Ministry and hopes to see it implemented by the end of the year.
