Rolls-Royce Moved Productions to Singapore

Rolls-Royce has moved its Barnoldswick plant’s production to offshore.

The company moved the production of its Trent jet engine blades from its 80-year-old plant in Barnoldswick, Lancashire, to a site in Singapore effective November 27, 2020.

Staff of the Barnoldswick plant were furloughed on 80 percent pay, with more than 150 people affected.

Work that was undertaken at Barnoldswick will be transferred to Japan, Singapore and Spain. Meanwhile, it was reported that this move is not permanent as Rolls-Royce usually shut down its UK facilities over Christmas. However, for this year, there were no mentioned about the length of the shutdown.

The Barnoldswick plant started producing the first jet engines in 1940s. The plant was first owned by Rover and was taken over by Rolls-Royce in 1943.

It was understandable that Rolls-Royce just like any other companies in the world were badly affected by the pandemic. With the grounding of so many aircraft, the market for jet engines will surely be way more less than before.

Let’s hope that the Covid-19 clears the skies as soon as possible.
