- Volkswagen Golf Is Europe's Best Seller, Again
The Volkswagen Golf shifted back to the top of the leaderboard as Europe’s best-selling car. This eighth-generation model was launched in October 2019, thus a pretty good achievement given that 2020 was a year of disruption.
The Volkswagen Golf managed to mobilize around 312,000 new owners in Europe last year, with about 134,000 units in Germany alone. In fact, the top three best-selling cars in Germany were all VW models, with the Tiguan and Passat taking second and third spot respectively.
The range of Golf variants in Europe includes the GTI, GTD, R, and the electrified GTE. The increase in demand for electrified models also made an impact on placing Golf as the best seller; Volkswagen said that close to one in three VW Golfs sold in Europe in 2020 was a hybrid.
Meanwhile, in Malaysia, there are rumours circulating that local distributor Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia is planning on introducing this all-new Golf and will be locally assembled at their current facility in Pahang.
