- 2021 Rolls-Royce Phantom features 3000 bird feathers in bespoke dashboard
Abu Dhabi Motors unveiled the Rolls-Royce Phantom ‘Iridescent Opulence’ that focuses on the bespoke gallery dashboard with more than 3,000 tail feathers.
This concept of a bespoke gallery originated from Swiss-based Nature Squared which is an accomplished materials specialist that produces the most unique designs from sustainable materials with the use of current technology.
The company decided to incorporate feathers into the design of the gallery as the idea was bold and unique - something no other automaker has tried before. Detailed research was done before the designing of the gallery as the feathers were required to come from a sustainable species of bird with a rich dense plumage.
More than 3,000 feathers were chosen, individually shaped and hand-sewn onto an open pore fabric in a design. On top of that, additional upgrades were added to the design to bring the work of art to life. Not forgetting the Mother of Pearl design that surrounds and brings emphasis to the bold look of the feathers.
“The Gallery in Rolls-Royce Phantom is a unique space that provides the perfect stage to showcase artworks. ‘Iridescent Opulence’ by Nature Squared is a brilliant example of what can be commissioned and displayed in that space,” Rolls-Royces Motor Car Middle East and Affrica regional director César Habib said in a statement.
Under the hood of the Phantom, houses a 12-cylinder 48-valve DOHC 6.7-litre engine that produces 453 hp at 5350 rpm and 720 Nm at 3500 rpm. It has an 8-speed automatic transmission that allows the acceleration of 0-100 kph in just 6 seconds, with the top speed of 240 kph.
