A report of a man posing as a customer stole a used Perodua Axia from a used car dealer in Jalan Kampar, Ipoh, after he took it for a test drive.

Ipoh District Police Chief assistant commissioner A Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the suspect has posed as an interested buyer looking for a Perodua Myvi was directed to test drive a blue 2016 Perodua Axia, as the dealer had no Myvis on sale.

The suspect was accompanied by a 25-year old female sales representative from the dealer, during the incident. The women sat behind the passenger seat throughout the test drive, not long after that, the women asked the suspect to drive back to the dealer centre. The suspect agreed, and asked the women to take over the wheel, as she is more familiar with that area.

They stopped at a junction along Jalan Kampar heading to Jalan Sultan Nazrin Shah. When the sales representative got out of the car, walking to the driver's door, the suspect sped off with the car, leaving the sales representative stranded by the side of the road.

Due to the mandatory mask-wearing regulation, it is impossible to recognise the suspect and the sales representative also didn't take down the suspect's details before the test drive.

The Perodua Axia 1000 G (Auto) was priced at RM 24,000 and the case is currently investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code.
