- Driving License Renewals Exemptions
Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOT) has provided a renewal exception for the Motor Vehicle Licenses (LKM) and Competent Driving License (CDL) holders during this Movement Control Order 2.0 (MCO) period.
Malaysia's Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong said "I have granted exemptions to all private vehicle owners from renewing their Motor Vehicle Licenses and Competent Driving Licenses effective from February 1, 2021 to March 31, 2021."
This exemption is a result of the public's feedback received from private vehicle owners whose licenses will be expiring during the MCO period which was implemented nationwide except in the state of Sarawak.
On top of that, due to the temporary service limitations enforced during the start of the MCO on January 13, 2021, which impacted the Road Transport Department (JPJ), Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) and Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) offices in Sabah and Sarawak.
MOT advised the public to utilise the online platforms that have been provided by JPJ and other business partners to make any necessary license renewals. Vehicle owners are also reminded to ensure that their insurance coverage is up to date and to display a copy of their insurance certificate (e-cover note) on their vehicles or to present it to the traffic enforcement personnel if needed to.
As for now, the permitted renewal services are only open to trade-related transactions for Commercial Vehicles and Vocational Licenses (GDL and PSV) only.
This renewal exemption by the MOT is similar to the one implemented on March 25, 2020 to September, 30, 2020 during the MCO 1.0 period.
