An inconsiderate and reckless driver caused death after he ran a red light with his Toyota Hilux.

A mother died on the spot while her daughter was seriously injured after the car they were traveling on was hit by the Toyota Hilux at Temenggong Ahmad traffic light junction along Jalan Pintasan Bandar around 7.45am.

“The incident occurred at around 7.45am on Sunday April 25 morning, where the victim, Noriah Abu Samah, died at the scene due to serious injuries to her head and body, and her daughter Nur Nabila Alisha seriously injured,” said Muar OCPD Asst Comm Zaharudin Rasip.

"The initial investigation found a Toyota Hilux driving by Gui Chui, 69, from the direction of Parit Jawa to the center of Muar driving at high speed. He also did not stop during the red traffic light and hit the Perodua Myvi when it moved after the green traffic light,” added Zaharudin.

A video was recorded for 23 seconds in social media showing the moments of this accident.

Johor Fire and Rescue Center Operations Center Malaysia spokesperson said that a total of 13 firefighters were sent, a LRFT machinery, an EMRS machinery and two rim units from Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Muar were used to rescue the victim involved in this incident.

This incident involved five vehicles consisting of a four-wheel drive Toyota Hilux, a Perodua Myvi, a Nissan Grand Livina, an Econovan and a Toyota Hierota Van.

During the incident, the traffic lights worked well with dry road conditions as well as good weather. The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
