The fully electric Volvo XC40 Recharge has recently earned the TOP SAFETY PICK PLUS (TSP+) from the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This resulted in Volvo Cars being the only brand to achieve TSP+ across its entire product line.

The first fully electric small SUV adds to the record set last month for the most single-year TSP+ awards earned by any car maker since the honours began in 2013.

As a recap, the IIHS awards TSP+ status to vehicles that equip the highest level of safety. In February, Volvo Cars received nine TSP+ awards and continued to receive five in March as well as an additional award in April. Altogether, Volvo Cars has received a total of 15 awards for 2021.

Setting the company apart, Volvo Cars is known to focus on its standard safety such as forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, combined with advanced pedestrian- and cyclist- collision avoidance.

“Regardless of bodystyle, engine or trim, every Volvo offers innovative protection in a crash. We are proud that IIHS has recognised this by awarding a Top Safety Pick Plus to every vehicle we produce today. No other company has been awarded this honour across all car lines.” said Volvo Car USA president and chief executive officer Anders Gustafsson.

The Volvo XC40 Recharge has now joined the bandwagon of Volvo’s TSP+ Award recipients. Below is the following vehicles that has received the award for this year:

  • Volvo S90
  • Volvo S90 Recharge
  • Volvo V90
  • Volvo V90 Cross Country
  • Volvo V60 Cross Country

  • Volvo V60
  • Volvo V60 Recharge
  • Volvo XC40

Volvo Cars stands by its vision - no one should be killed or seriously injured by a new Volvo car. This results in Volvo constantly innovating new safety features, such as the introduction of speed caps in new cars, run-off road protection as well as a new suite of safety sensors which is debuting in the Volvo XC40 Recharge.
