Ford Confirms Bronco And Ranger EV Along With Two New EV Platforms On Twitter?
Ford’s product communications manager recently broke surprising news on Twitter with two new dedicated EV platforms for light commercial vehicles, pickups, and SUVs - the Global Electrified 2 and Truck Electrified 1.
The brand presented the GE2 with outlines of various vehicles, including the Mustang Mach-E, Transit Connect panel and passenger van, and what seems to be an Explorer. Investors have also shown Bronco and Ranger-like profiles on the GE2, which is quite an intriguing concept.
It is seen that both the Bronco and Ranger feature a body-on-frame structure which is standard for an off-road SUV or a midsize pickup truck. It is noted that although the outline should not be taken as official confirmation, chief executive officer Jim Farley has stated that the brand will electrify its most iconic vehicles - which most likely include Bronco.
When questioned about the TE1 platform, Levine verified that Ford is working on an all-electric full-size truck platform. This framework would handle two- and three-row SUVs, which includes the Expedition and Lincoln Navigator family hauliers and the upcoming 2022 F-150 Lighting - which is expected to be due in May 2022.
Cadillac is also currently building a zero-emissions Escalade, so electrifying the Expedition and Navigator shouldn't come as a surprise. It reported that the internal combustion-engine Cadillac Escalade would phase out in 2029, with the e-Escalade arriving in 2024 at the earliest.
The Blue Oval expected to form a battery-making joint venture with SK Innovation of South Korea as part of the Ford+ plan. It is centred on three battery types: lithium-ion, lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) and solid-state batteries. Two manufacturing facilities will also be operated in the United States.
Ford anticipates a third of the full-size truck sector in the United States to be entirely electric by 2030, representing more than 800,000 cars per year, and the company is committed to being a leader in this space.
