Government Permits Cross State, District Movement For Taxi and e-Hailling During Lockdown

This phase of life is seen as increasingly challenging due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, causing the government to realize that the people are finding it increasingly difficult to earn a living.

Some lost their jobs, and some even had to close their businesses during the total lockdown but there seems to be a ray of light for taxi drivers and e-hailing.

They can now breathe a sigh of relief! But why?

This is because the government now allows for  taxi drivers and e-hailing throughout Peninsular Malaysia to cross states and districts without any restrictions by the authorities.

But wait! Do not misunderstand.

Taxi and e-hailing drivers are only allowed to cross states and districts for the purpose of carrying passengers who have a letter of permission from the authorities.

"Taxi services and e-hailing vehicles are allowed to operate across states and districts as they are classified as necessary services," the Transport Ministry said in a statement.

Still, perhaps many taxi and e-hailing drivers are confused as to how to obtain a letter of approval. It's actually easy!

You actually only need to get a letter of authorization, which should be issued by the corresponding management or operator of your respective company before taking your passengers to cross states or districts.

Additionally, taxi drivers can also obtain a letter of approval through the Logistics Industry Information System (SMILE) under the supervision of the ministry through the website link https://application.mot.gov.my.

We have to ensure to not be complacent with the flexibility given by the government and forget the COVID-19 war is not over yet!
