NIO Obtains European Whole Vehicle Type Approval For The ES8, Ready To Enter First Overseas Market?
NIO has confirmed that the brand’s smart electric flagship SUV has received the European Whole Vehicle Type Approval (EWVTA).

Announced on June 11, the EVWTA is pivotal in building the foundation for NIO’s entry into the European market.
The European version of the NIO ES8 has been approved for mass production and license plate registration in all EU countries, with Norway being the brand’s first overseas market. It is expected that the first model will be delivered in September this year.

NIO will also offer its direct sales and service network to Norwegian consumers, including NIO House, NIO App for European users, Power Swap Stations, and NIO Life.
Upon coinciding with engineering audits and module approvals, the type approval certification was authorized to the NIO ES8 and its systems, components, and separate technical units under Regulation (EU) 2018/858.
Since September 1 2020, Regulation (EU) 2018/858 has been the current policy regulation in the EU that reinforces the independence of quality and vehicle testing and surveillance of existing cars in the EU market.
As a recap, the ES8 is a seven-seat all-electric SUV that has been on sale in China since 2018. It features an NEDC range of up to 580 kilometres with a 100 kWh battery pack, which allows a century sprint of 4.9 seconds. Fitted are also the NIO Pilot (ADAS) and NOMI, the world’s first in-vehicle artificial intelligence (AI).

There are no reports or confirmations on the prices, but it is expected to be revealed in the upcoming months.
