TC Subaru Sdn Bhd, the official distributor of Subaru vehicles in Malaysia, has introduced the Subaru Connex to bring greater safety and peace of mind to new and current Subaru XV and Forester owners after the successful completion of a two-year-long trial.

Safety has always been a critical criterion for Subaru. The company has been committed to keeping its drivers and passengers safer on the road, which led to the spearhead of the trial of Subaru Connex in 2019, a sophisticated security system with the support of a 24/7 call centre.

“Subaru Connex has come at the right time when safety has become more important than ever. The device further enhances our continuous commitment to safety, giving Subaru drivers something more that they can rely on should they require any emergency assistance,” said its country manager Eugene Tay in a statement.

The Subaru Connex comes with many features that could enhance the safety, security and convenience when you are an owner of a Subaru vehicle.

First and foremost are the safety aspects. The Subaru Connex has the Automatic Accident Alert & Response, a feature that will provide the vehicle’s location, the severity of the impact and crash speed to the call centre in case of an accident.

The device will register the crash and send the necessary information to the call centre with an impact force as low as 2G. Simultaneously, the onboard system will automatically connect with the call centre, who will then speak to the driver or the occupants in the Subaru to find out if they are well or require any medical or roadside assistance. If any assistance is required, the call centre will connect with MERS 999 and provide the Subaru’s location to dispatch help.

On top of that, there’s also the Enhanced Roadside Assitance and the Enhanced Emergency Assistance. Equipped with the Subaru Connex, the Subaru owners only needs to press the bCall button (breakdown call) or the SOS service button to get the Subaru’s Roadside Assist or to dispatched an Ambulance service to the requested location.

There’s also VIP Assist offered exclusively for Subaru Connex customers via the bCall button. It includes unlimited towing to preferred authorised Subaru workshop (In case of flood, breakdown or accident), on-site repair service (up to RM300 (labour charge only) per accident), and transport reimbursement in case of an accident repair (Up to RM2,000 with terms and conditions apply and when serviced at authorised Subaru workshop).

Moving towards the security aspects. The Subaru Connex features the Smart Alarm, Car Status, and the Pro-active Battery Status Management. Upon setting up the Smart Alarm, the owner will be notified (via the Subaru Connex app and the registered email) if their Subaru’s ignition has been switched on or if their vehicle is being towed. The owner can also check the Subaru’s battery voltage, the device battery voltage, ignition On or Off status, driving history, or last parked location in the Car Status feature. Meanwhile, the Pro-active Battery Status Management feature will notify the owner when the battery’s voltage runs low.

As for the convenience aspects, have features like the Service Maintenance Reminder, Driving Score, Trip Review, Automatic Vehicle Location, Speed Alert and Stolen Vehicle recovery. It gives the Subaru’s owner a reminder when the Subaru is due for servicing, encourages safer and more efficient driving practices, records previous trips, and informs the owner where the car has been. For those who are absentminded, it has a feature to remind them where they parked their vehicle. If the owner sets a speed limit alert, a notification will be sent when the speed limit has been exceeded. There’s also the function to activate the ‘Stolen vehicle recovery’ process and liaise with the police for vehicle recovery if the Subaru has been stolen.

The Subaru Connex is priced at RM 1,900 exclusive of prevailing taxes and from September 10, 2021. It is Usage-Based Insurance (UBI) ready and available as an option for new XV and Forester customers at all authorised Subaru showrooms.

In addition, existing XV and Forester owners may purchase and install this device at all authorised Subaru Service Centres nationwide. Customers may download the Subaru Connex mobile app on both Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store.
