- First Performance Hybrid Ready For Production!: Mercedes-AMG
German automaker Mercedes-Benz has just revealed their first all-electric car, the AMG GT 63 S E Performance. The four-door coupé is the first series of E Performance plug-in hybrids, the most powerful production vehicle from Affalterbach.

Design-wise, a noticeable feature of the AMG GT 63 S E Performance would be the front apron, inspired by the two-door AMG GT. Another feature would be the rear apron, with an integrated plug-in charging flap and highlighted model designation. Externally fluted trapezoidal twin exhaust tailpipes are also spotted, alongside the Night Package and Carbon package option, just to name a few.

Like the AMG GT 63, the vehicle is based on; it features a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V-8 mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The motor is placed at the rear axle, integrated with an electrically shifted two-speed gearbox and the electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential in a compact electric drive unit (EDU). This allows the coupé to produce up to 843 hp and a maximum torque of more than 1,400 Nm, alongside a century sprint of 2.9 seconds.
The high-performance battery of the AMG GT 63 S E Performance features a capacity of 6.1 kWh, 70 kW of continuous output and 150 kW of peak output for ten seconds which results in an electric range of 12 kilometres. Charging is through a 3.7 kW onboard AC charger, and the battery also includes a direct cooling system allowing for a consistent and optimum operating temperature.
As the new flagship of the model series, the four-door coupé is equipped with a list of upgrades, including the AMG RIDE CONTROL+ suspension with a new damping system. As standard, the adapted AMG ceramic high-performance composite brake system and the MBUX multimedia system with unique hybrid displays are fitted.

The AMG GT 63 S E Performance is expected to arrive in the United States next year, as part of the division’s 2023 model year. A long list of shades is available to choose from, along with the extended customisation range at bay. No pricing has been announced, although it is expected to exceed the $160,000 line.
It is reported that more AMG plug-in hybrids are on their way, including one based on the C-Class. Mercedes-AMG has also announced a partnership with will.i.am as their brand ambassador, where the Black Eyed Peas frontman was featured in the AMG GT 63 S E Performance introduction video.
